Syesha Mercado gets 'Dreamgirls' role

Syesha Mercado has picked up the Deena Jones role in a national touring production of Dreamgirls. That's the role that Beyoncé played in the film version of the musical. Moya Angela has been cast as Effie White, the character Jennifer Hudson portrayed in the film.

The touring production of Dreamgirls will premiere at the Apollo Theater in Harlem in November. The show opens Sunday, Nov. 22, and runs four weeks, through Dec. 6.
