^ That is totally possible. They went in June last time too. Makes sense. They would have been spotted somewhere if in a popular beach location. Haiti is more exclusive and press free.

We did get pictures last time though.

I think we got pictures when they came back. I also saw that Mike is on the board of directors (or something like that) for the orphanage in Haiti. I loved the pictures we were able to see from the last time they were there.

It may just be wishful thinking on my part but I'm hoping the delay on hearing Mike's decision about retirement is because he's staying and they are going to make an announcement after the contract negotiation is finished.

I'm pretty sure he's on record as saying that he doesn't want to coach.

Every rumor is saying he is playing for another year. I have heard nothing about coaching.

However-- it's taking much longer than expected for this announcement. Training camp starts in September so they really need this locked in soon.

That's what I am hoping too. If he were going to retire, I would think it would be announced already.

With the signings of Arvidson and Freddie, I notice that the Preds don't have much $ left in their Cap, right? Is there enough for Mike to have 1 more year? It just feels like it is taking far too long for this announcement.

They've got $14 million in cap space left and only 2 players other than Mike left to sign. They have room if he chooses to come back. I'm hoping they'll announce something very soon.

I agree. It would seem that if he intended to retire he would just announce it. I'm thinking they are negotiating and trying to get the salaries to fit under the cap. They are now at about $13 million in cap space with just Johansen left of the RFAs. I saw some discussion about what they think Johansen is worth and they were thinking it wouldn't be over $7 million or so of a cap hit. That would still leave plenty of room for Mike's contract and possibly another acquisition.

Finally. haha I just want to know one way or another. But I agree with the posters above that said if he was going to Retire, it would have been announced by now instead of dragging it out.

I believe the NHL has a multi-week break in the middle of the season so as to not coincide with the Olympics.

They have in the past but the NHL is not allowing their players to play in the Olympics this time. If Mike plays on the Olympic team it would likely only be if he decides to retire.

Well, that would be interesting. What a hard decision to make if he has indeed been contacted by Team Canada! Playing in the Olympics with the chance to win gold...wow, what a once in a lifetime thing to accomplish. Of course, so would be raising the Stanley Cup. Tough call.

Also, why does the NHL have to be so stingy and not let their players play in the Olympics? Don't the NBA players play for Team USA all the time?
