Ugh. PLEASE, Carrie, for the love of all things country music, don't go near Kara!!!
Her pop songs are about as good as country attempts (aka- neither are good), but she should stick with pop, because at least she can get away with basic/catchy songs more in the pop genre.
Most of the appeal of country music lies on GREAT songs for me, and Kara doesn't cut it.
I will say I didn't mind "Sometimes You Leave," and she did write a decent for RF's Unstoppable album, but that's not enough for me to believe in her writing ability.
I agree that Carrie has written some really good songs with other writers who bring out her strengths, but Kara isn't one of them.
I'm so fired up about this, I'm considering starting a thread at the FC to beg Carrie NOT to write with Kara. Think she'll read it?![]()
^^^^No her label will read that and make sure all her songs are Kara cowrotes then....lol. Just like they ignored our posts to not release Mama song as a single but still did....lol.
Oh for goodness' sake, no more Kara on the next album please!!!! Keep her away from Carrie!
Of all the songwriters out there, why does Carrie's team feel the need to go to Kara for collaboration? Surely there are way better, more talented COUNTRY songwriters out there who'd jump at the chance to have a song included in Carrie's album? Sometimes I think Carrie's team is not aware of the feedback of the fans.
I dont see the big deal with Carrie writing with Kara
Kara has written some great songs before...and its not like Carrie has to put what they write on the album.
If they arent that good, then they wont be ont he album.
UI is a really fun song to sing and has gone platinum..id say thats a victory
MS, on the other hand, isnt written too great and hasnt done well
so, for me, as long as its a good song, its okay to work with kara again
p.s---but i would prefer stuff that is better written than MS and UI
I don't dislike Kara, I liked Undo It and Sometimes you Leave, but I didn't like Mamas Song and that American Idol Coronation song she wrote a few seasons back. I feel like if Kara writes a good song then it should be on the album, but if she doesn't Carrie just shouldn't use it
^ I hope carrie won't feel obligated to use kara co writes when choosing songs or be "encouraged"-pressured into doing so. hmm I wonder if it's more her team that encourages it or carrie herself that thought it would be best writing with kara? hmm wonder if she or anyone on her team even knows the audience/fans feedback on the kara's style of writing...
I enjoy a lot of Kara's co-writes in the pop music world, but I dont think she understands how much more emotional and sentimental country music is.

I don't think fans want a Revolution II. They just want a great album, period. Maybe Revolution has been mentioned, because it's one of the recently better albums released, and Miranda has been gaining momentum, but it's not the only standard for good albums out there. For example, Trisha's Heaven, Heartache, and the Power of Love is one the best albums in recent times, and it's nowhere near Revolution. But it's a great album, nonetheless. So was Like Red on a Rose, and that also couldn't be any more different than Revolution or HHAPOL
Carrie doesn't need to copy anyone. She's way too talented and gifted for that. She just needs to develop a knack for picking better songs in the process. There's no question in her vocal prowess at all. It's mostly in some songs that she chooses to sing that question marks appear.
I don't know how I feel about Carrie writing with Kara. I loved UI - my favorite song off of Play On, but then MS was at the bottom of the list for me. But, either Carrie or the label liked the Kara co-writes because they were released as singles. I just really want to see some real growth on this next album. I think CR and PO showed a lot of growth from SH, but I don't think they are that different from each other. Carrie is starting to get stuck in a formula with song releases and I don't like it. You have boy bashing songs (BHC, LN, CC, UI), family-oriented songs (DFTRM, AAG, MS), inspirational ballads (JTTW, SS, TH), and then three that don't fit in those categories (JAD, Wasted, ITYS). Out of all of those single releases, there are really very few that I haven't liked, but they do follow a formula for the most part. Wasted is probably still my favorite Carrie single to date and she hasn't released another one like it. She's also never released a true love song and her only "relationship" ballad was a remake. I just hope Carrie looks a little deeper this go around.
Made the first post a little more ~presentable.
agree. I think Carrie should have released either SWISLY or WCIS as those are deep, relationship songs, even though they are sad. She needs to try to get over that "mushy" block she has, and try to give the public at least one or 2 songs that they really what they want to hear--- love songs once in awhile. lol
I think people want to hear love songs sometimes-- though not every time like SWSRN. lol
If Carre had released a love song this year to counteract the edgy bad boy songs, it would have been a nice strategy, as it would be a nice change.
I really want her team to ditch the formula of releasing only Inspirational Ballads, songs for Mom, and edgy bad boy songs.
Wasted and AAG were 2 of the most successful songs she did to date as they were upbeat and happy. ITYS was a big success because it was a sad, regretful love song. I think she should save songs like Change, TH, etc, for a whole album of inspirational music. I would be first in line to buy it, but it didn't flow with the other songs on the album. I love both of those songs, but I want her to release an album with one cohesive theme, with songs that flow together. PO was great but it was all over the place with an interrupted theme. Change and TH interrupted the theme, unfortunately, even though they are both beautiful songs.
That's exactly the problem I have with Kara's cowrite. I don't exactly *hate* her songs (except for the infamously terrible No Boundaries), but I am just not a fan of the musical direction she would be "influencing" Carrie towards. (not saying Carrie can't think for herself, but cowriters obviously do have their share of influence on how the end product sounds like).
Kara's style is mainly about Pop hooks and cliche Pop lyrics. It just doesn't fit well with Country IMO. UI is catchy for sure, great for concert and live performances, but there's a reason why it's such a love/hate song among Country fans. Almost all the Pop fans I know like the song though.
Yeah there are many Pop songs Kara wrote that I actually LOVE-- but that is because pop songs are supposed to be catchy and fun, not really deep or heavy on the lyrical content. It is all about the Beat in pop music.
But country music demands more substantive lyrics and a story. Mama's Song had too many cliches and it was just not very deep. I know Carrie can go deeper then that-- as look at What Can I Say, TAPFU, Unapologize,Temporary Home, All American Girl, So Small, etc. Those songs have good lyrics, catchy hooks, are not full of cliches. They talk about complex relationships that go deeper then the surface. Even Cowboy Casanova has better lyrics despite just being a fun, rocking song. I think where Mama's Song went wrong, was the simplistic lyrics that didn't really make you understand or feel WHY this guy was "so so good." It was kept superficial, like she was talking to a girlfriend about her man on the phone, but not really opening up about WHY she loves this guy. It didn't move me because the lyrics were too generic and superficial. She needed to go deeper, and I think Kara may have responsible for this.
I personally LOVE Undo It, but that is because I am not some die hard traditionalist like some purists, so I can understand why it would not be their cup of tea. But at least Undo It is catchy and fun. MS has a sleepy melody that just doens't feel very catchy. That is surprising as Kara's strength seems to be the melody rather then the lyrics, so I am not sure how MS ended up with a dull melody. Odd.
This just bums me out, lol. That list has two pop songwriters and one country songwriter... Why won't they market her to Pop radio, then? If they don't want to push her to crossover (see "Cowboy Casanova" and "Undo It") then why work with the pop songwriters?
Also, I can't stand Kara DioGuardi, the writer. She just isn't very good, in my opinion. I feel like nothing was learned from "Mama's Song."
I cannot wait for album #4! I feel like Carrie is going to go all out with this one, like she did with the Play On tour. I want so bad for it to be nominated for (and win) Album of the Year at the Grammys and the ACM/CMA Awards as well. I have a really good feeling about this next album. It is going to be AMAZING!!
^ I wonder if it's more carrie's team that is encouraging these co-writes specifically with kara or carrie herself that is very open and enthusiastic to the idea...
wonder if they even know how we feel about it from the outside perspective or if that even matters at all.
They didn't seem to care what we thought about WCIS, SWISLY, or Mama's Song. lol I think we made our feelings very clear, even on the fanclub homepage poll. MS was always towards the bottom of the barrel in that poll, but they didn't care what the fans thought. lol
Good point. If they are not going to promote Carrie to pop radio or even Hot Ac, why bother to work with pop songwriters? All it does is piss off Nashville and make them snub her even more. lol
I loved Cowboy Casanova, Undo It, and Quitter though....but I am also a pop/rock fan so I can appreciate those songs more then the traditional country people. lol
I just wish that they would actually promote Carrie a little on Hot AC etc. They don't need to remix the dang songs. Just do some interviews, etc.

Do we even know that its not Carrie making a lot of these decisions that we blame Kara for?
I think MS was all about her Mom and Mike and didn't really care what we thought. Carrie doesn't like mushy stuff.
TH was all Mike promoted.
Are #1 singles important to Carrie as much as just singing the type of songs she wants to sing?
Sometimes I think we blame others for situations that maybe Carrie is realy forcing her hand about.
I suppose we'll never know but not sure we should blame her team for everything that has happened negatively when I think Carrie can be very strong about some things.
So much going on that it just seems like we need to have an open mind. I love everything she puts out so I'm an easy fan compared to some of you - though do have my favorites.
