I think it would be a mistake not to release another single from PO
Interesting. With all the talk of "Quitter" being the next logical single choice, I'll be thrilled if we get to close out the era and move on to a new album.
There's talk of the two strongest singles not being released (WCIS &SWISLY), and the way Carrie has responded, I would think there is little hope for a great song this era.
Carrie ended on a good note, with the MS video getting an awesome response from fans, plus the new buzz surrounding TH with the Idol audition. Moving on to "Quitter" would be a mistake, especially because there is little to redeem from it. We won't have a great video (MS, TH), and there's nothing personal or particularly interesting to defend, as there was with MS, TH, CC, and even UI (great ear-candy).
Anyway, JMO.
But have we gotten any confirmation Carrie is even working on a new album? She confirmed at the GG's she won't start writing for awhile. She'll probably clear it up in her blog soon, the buzz is hitting a fever pitch.
She said she was starting to write in February, so that means, at the earliest, we could get an album on her usual schedule of Fall 2011.
The buzz is hardly at a fever pitch though lol. Well, it is on here, but for many casual country listeners, Carrie's name is still out there, and they are still hearing MS on the radio. It just got to #2 not that long ago!
Whether there is a 5th PO single or not, I don't think Carrie being "absent" (not really though considering DJs play all of her songs so much) from radio for a bit would be a bad thing. I think it would give more casual fans a chance to actually miss her, and really, truly be anticipating a new album.
All that being said, knowing how Carrie's team has handled things in the past, Carrie will likely have some material on the radio in some way whether it be a 5th single, song from Soul Surfer, duet with Randy Travis or someone else, or some other song for a project we don't even know about yet. Carrie's team doesn't usually let very much time pass without new material on the radio, so I'd say we will get something, and then there may be a brief time (1-2 months maybe) between that song and the new single from the next album.
Again, though, anticipation is not a bad thing! For us die-hard fans it is excruciating, but it could help build serious buzz amongst the general country audience.
As a side note, I disagree with your comments about Quitter. It is a good, catchy tune that would be a great Spring/Summer single, and it is, as you say about UI, great ear candy IMO. Also, I find it interesting how you say it isn't personal, when it would actually be the first real more uptempo song Carrie has released expressing how she is in love/ready to settle down for life! I think that is deeply personal! It may not be a lyrical masterpiece either (most songs on the radio these days aren't), but seeing as many here feel the same way about MS, I say why not put Quitter on the radio? It could surprise us!
I still think this is a rumor being it came from Wiki I mean it's not official till it's official so I can't wait to hear what the 5th single will actually be!!!
Now that two DJ's have told a few Carrie fans this is the last single from PO, I would think it's pretty reliable. I would think it's going to be something from the various duet/tribute album projects she's working on, because she hasn't even started the new album.
maybe Carrie will do a re-release of PO? and have bonus songs? thats the only thing i can think of... but there are so mant songs on PO that deserve to be heard!

I will be really sad if this is the end of PO - two great songs to be made singles!!

I sure hope there's another single released from Play On, there's so much life left in that album that it'd be a shame not to share it with the rest of the world.
i hope there is another single from play on to
