    Christina Aguilera Telepathy is here

Christina Aguilera Goes Vintage Disco on 'Telepathy (feat. Nile Rodgers)'

If Baz Luhrmann’s upcoming Netflix series The Get Down is as rich as its accompanying soundtrack suggests, this show’s about to be the next big cultural obsession — at least while we wait for Season 2 of Stranger Things.

To supply the sound of his new musical drama series, set in 1970s New York at the time of disco’s reign and the emergence of sub-cultures like punk, ball and hip-hop, the prolific Great Gatsby director enlisted Nas and Grandmaster Flash as producers to curate a soundtrack that accurately evokes the era.

The resulting compilation, out on August 12, boasts a wide array of talented acts blending past and present influences, from Zayn (“You Can’t Hide”) to Janelle Monae (“Hum Along & Dance (Gotta Get Down)”) to Miguel (“Cadillac,” one of our best songs of the week) to the one and only Christina Aguilera.

“Telepathy,” Christina’s shimmering, strut-friendly contribution to the soundtrack, was written by constant collaborator Sia, who’s worked with the Voice superstar ever since 2010’s Bionic. And, for the perfect added touch of authenticity, Chic legend Nile Rodgers provides his signature joyful, dance floor-friendly disco sound.

Naturally, Vintagetina’s mighty voice carries throughout the uplifting anthem, filled out by vibrant strings and horns. “I know you and you know me…we got telepathy!”

If you’re feeling compelled to dance, there’s good reason: it’s tailored for a vogue-off.

“Its underlying beats are a reference to the 1970s vogueing anthems popular at vogue-club balls like the House of LaBeija,” producer Nelson George says of the track.

And, yes, this collaboration also marks a reunion between Baz and Christina exactly fifteen years later after Legend X’s classic “Lady Marmalade” remake for the Moulin Rouge soundtrack. They still got it!

“Telepathy” isn’t necessarily a reflection of Aguilera’s long-awaited eighth studio album, but rather the latest in a string of releases from the singer, including her Pulse shooting benefit single “Change,” as well as her Nashville soundtrack songs, “Shotgun” and “The Real Thing.” That said, it definitely wouldn’t be the worst to hear more of Nile and Sia on X8.
