We lose one of the great traditional voices - Jean Ritchie, RIP

I've sadly heard of the passing, at the age of 92, of Jean Ritchie, one of East Kentucky's most respected and influential collector and singer of traditional songs. Her pure, high voice, often accompanied on a mountain dulcimer, will be much missed.

CMT have posted a detailed obituary here:
Folksinger, Songwriter Jean Ritchie Dead at 92 | CMT

Here is an example of her singing the old English ballad "Barbry Allen"

Thanks for posting this, faraway. Brought back wonderful memories. I'm not familiar with the artist with the lovely voice but my Mom, who died at age 100, used to sing this old song while working around the house. She also sang 2 other songs with similar themes -- "Rosewood Casket" and "I'll be all Smiles Tonight."
