Billboard Article: Country Radio Goes Pop: How Formats Shift When Genres Cross

I don't know if anyone has seen this article. Just wondering what you all think.

It's not often that radio stations do something distinctive enough to get other radio people talking, but at least two reached out to me within a few minutes of each other on Monday and all it took was the addition of a few pop titles to two different country stations. For country KSCS Dallas, it was playing Ed Sheeran's "Don't" and "Thinking Out Loud' as well as Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney's "FourFive Seconds." And Cumulus sister WNSH (Nash 94.7) New York had been heard playing '90s and '00s gold from acts like Daughtry, John Mayer and Plain White T's over the weekend.

Thanks for the link, D. Usually the links are 'clickable'. Not sure what I did wrong.

Agree. Country radio is burning themselves with all the manipulation and playing what PD's want instead of listening to their audience. Very sad for country music.

....and that right there is the problem. Things are so expensive these days country radio is having to take drastic measures to stay relevant. When in reality, if they would just stay the course and create a cohesive brand, the audience will always turn round and come back....

Country music will always be cause people like it. If the entire industry caved in on itself tomorrow and it all ended, all it would take is for someone to come along and start a little radio station that played "only" country music and Bam! they would be a runaway hit and the format would be reborn. People like country music. Country Industry is making huge mistakes right now selling itself cheap to large company's who give back cheap returns....Nashville used to be very strong and powerful cause it was its own industry and kept to itself. Now that it has sold out, it is getting all but washed away....

I have a radical idea. Play Jason Isbell, Lindi Ortega, Rachel Brooke, Holly Williams, Sara Jarosz, Valerie June, Chris Knight, Carolina Choclate Drops , Della Mae, Tami Neilson ect along with mainstream country on country radio. They should play country not pop. Sheesh

They should let harmless song be played so Little Big Town band fans can hear great song on radio.

Even some of the comments on that article that explains what the song is about completely sidestep it and use the opportunity to accuse people of a "Gay Agenda". What the heck is a Gay Agenda? That people should wear better clothes and moisturize?

Its like saying epileptics have an Agenda! What agenda, to be tolerated?
