I've just heard of the sad death last week of much respected Country Music veteran, George Hamilton IV.
A member of the Opry since 1960, George latterly also acted as a guide to groups of visitors. I wonder if Carrie knew him?
He was a gentle and amiable man, who was very popular over here. (There is even a guest house in Sussex, which the owner, a fan, named in honour of George's family). His frequent tours across the Atlantic earnt him the name "The International Ambassador of Country Music", and he was one of the prime movers in setting up the Wembley Country Festivals, which ran in Greater London for 23 years, televised by the BBC, and which Carrie referred to when she headlined the first modern equivalent, (after those lapsed in 1991) in the form of the Country to Country Festival.
George will be missed. This is his best known hit, "Abilene".
RIP
R.I.P. George Hamilon IV
