Two songs from Carrie Underwood that she has written where you really like the lyrcis

Wine After Whisky: Once upon a time our world was on fire/ And I loved to watch it burn/ Wild and reckless, never any limits/ Guess I had a lot to learn/ Cause fire turns to ambers, ambers to ashes that blow away too soon/ Now eveything after you is like having/ Wine After Whisky/ It went from do anything for you, babe/ To you don't even miss me/ Once you've tasted a love that strong/ You can't go back and you can't settle on/ Anything less/ And that's what gets me/ Its like having wine after whisky/ Looking back I guess its really for the best/ / Still you're something crave/ Even though I know it was right to let you go/ You're a habait hard to break/ I got use to being high/ And nothing that I try seems good enough right now/ Its all so watered down/ Like having wine after whisky/ It went from do anything for you babe/ To you dont even miss me/ Once you've tasted a love that strong/ You can't go back and you can't settle on/ Anything less/ And thats what gets me/ Its like having wine after whisky/ Once you've tasted a love that strong/ You can't go back and you cann't settle on/ And thats what gets me/ Its like having wine/ Its like having wine after whisky

Two Black Cadallics: Two black Cadillacs drivin in a slow parade/ Headlights shinin bright in the middle of the day/ One if for his wife/ The other for the women who loved him at night/ Two black cadillacs meeting for the first time/ And the preacher said he was a good man/ And his brother said he was a good friend/ But the women in the two black veils didn't bother to cry/ Yeah, they took turns layin a rose down/ Threw a handful of dirt into the deep ground/ He's not the only one who had a secret to hide/ Bye bye, bye bye, bye bye/ Two months ago his wife called a number on his phone/ Turns out he'd been lyin to both of them for oh so long/ They decided then he'd never get away with doing this to them/ Two black cadillacs waiting for the right time, the right time/ It was the first and the last time they saw each other face to face/ They shared a crimson smile and just walked away/ And let the secret at the grave/ Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I always loved this song - I wish it got more attention!

Hello, you longshots, you dark horse runners
    Hairbrush singers, dashboard drummers
Hello, you wild magnolias just waitin to bloom
There's a little bit of all that inside of me and you
Thank God, even crazy dreams come true

I stood at the bottom of some walls I thought I couldn't climb
I felt like Cinderella at the ball just runnin out of time
So I know how it feels to be afraid
And think that it's all gonna slip away
    Hold on, hold on

Here's to you free souls, you firefly chasers
Street climbers, porch swingers, air guitar players
Here's to you fearless dancers, shakin walls in your bedrooms
There's a lot of wonder left inside of me and you
Thank God, even crazy dreams come true

Never let a bad day be enough
To go and talk you in to givin up
    Sometimes everybody feels like you
Oh, feels like you, just like you, yeah

I've met some go getters, some difference makers
Small town heroes and big chance takers
I've met some young hearts with somethin to prove, oh yeah

Here's to you longshots, you dark horse runners
    Hairbrush singers and dashboard drummers
Here's to you wild magnolias just waitin to bloom
There's a little bit of all that inside of me and you
Thank God, even crazy dreams come true

The infamous "lost song" - could have been a classic

I leant upon a fencepost and watched that cloud of dust
Billow through the wheat fields behind his old blue truck
I stood there for hours and watched that windmill spin
While all my dreams were scattered by the Oklahoma wind

I shook off the cold and crawled back in bed
I could smell his cologne on a pillow by my head
Outside I saw a robin on an ancient oak tree limb
But her song was stolen by the Oklahoma wind

I guess I should have seen it coming
Through the thunder in the clouds
I tried to make him change direction
But I couldn't tie him down

Every time I think he's here to stay
    he blows away again
It's like stopping the rain, trying to tame the Oklahoma wind
Someday the dust will settle but I can't wait that long
I need to find a quiet place, a shelter from the storm

I know it won't be long before he comes rolling back
But I'll be gone, moving on like the Oklahoma wind

Very good picks. I like that Carrie is writing more and more with each album.

    Two black cadillacs
    Wine after whiskey
    Temporary home...
But lyrically other singles not cowritten by Carrie like Blown away, Jesus take the wheel, Before he cheats, Wasted and Don't forget to remember me were much better written songs.

If I had to name just one Carrie single as my top choice, I would pick "Good Girl" - which she did co-write.

Lyrics are important, but they're not everything. In the case of "Good Girl" what appeals to me more than the lyrics is the music, and the incorporation of so many changes into her vocal line. This can't be done by the arranger or the producer - it's a vital component in the way the singer conceives and composes the song. Carrie incorporated more intricate surprises into the way this song shifts stylistically that only a confident singer at the top of her game could have attempted. In my view, it's the most ambitious vocal she's yet achieved - and I don't think it would have happened if she hadn't been co-writing a song she knew she herself would be performing.

I think you and Farawayhills have already picked Carrie's strongest cowrites (Two Black Cadillacs and Oklahoma Wind). I would also like to add Good in Goodbye has a line in it that hits me the hardest. "I thank God I didn't get what I thought I deserved." The realization and maturity of that lyric really hits home. There's just something about it that really resonated with me. Good in Goodbye might not be the most memorable Carrie songs for some but that line is one of my favorites.

Since you picked two I'll also pick What Can I Say which she wrote with David Hodges and Steve McEwan (who also contributed to Just A Dream and Someday When I Stop Loving You):

    Piercing words, eyes are red
Watched your tail lights in the rain
    Empty heart filled with regret
I know we were both to blame

And I'm not sorry that it's over
But for the way we let it end
So I said all I had to say
In letters that I threw away

And you should know, please believe me
I've picked up the phone a thousand times
And tried to dial your number
But it's been so long, it's never easy
It's like trying to spin the world the other way
    What can I say?

How did it come to this?
I think about you all the time
It's no excuse, but i wish
That I never made you cry

I'm not sorry that it's over
But for the way we let it end
I couldn't find the words to say

And you should know, please believe me
I've picked up the phone a thousand times
And tried to dial your number
But it's been so long, it's never easy
It's like trying to spin the world the other way
So what can I say? What can I say?
What can I say? What can I say?

I hate to think all you had of me
(I said all I had to say)
Is a memory I left you
The space between what was meant to be
(In letters that I threw away)
And the mess that it turned into

And you should know, please believe me
I've picked up the phone a thousand times
And tried to dial your number
But it's been so long, it's never easy
It's like trying to spin the world the other way

It's like trying to spin the world the other way
    What can I say?

Honorable Mention: I Ain't In Checotah Anymore- one of my favorites from Some Hearts and one of the first glimpses of Carrie becoming more involved in her career.
