I agree - it's different - it's good but not sure I'd buy it - think it's just not my type of music - yet, think it was good. ugh!!! Frustrated over how I felt about it!!

Well after listening to it, I would hope that I never hear the comment that a Carrie song isn't country or doesn't sound country. This song certainly doesn't sound country. The other thing that struck me as I listened to it, it's kinda along the same theme as Stay!!!

At least she left out that awful twang that she often does!

and people thought GG wasn't country?
Wonder how well this will do.I figure maybe top 30 since it's not the least bit country.

Agree - not country at all - do you like the song for the song itself?

I do like it, the production more then the lyrics because I don't really get it. If you don't want to be that girl don't be.It's different , but does Jen's voice sound odd at times to anyone else?

I guess I don't really like it Dizzy. Not sure where it fits in the current landscape of country music. But as was pointed out up thread, at least she's not using that awful twang. I've never liked her sound/voice because of that twang. It will be interesting to see how this is accepted and received on country radio and the buying public. I know I won't be buying it -- I've heard enough.

After a few listens I do like this song. I don't think it will do all that well on country stations, though.

I love this. It incorporates such a diverse collection of sounds. I can't get it out of my head.

We need another female to succeed in country music.

My guess is that this song does well the first few weeks just because it's new music by Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles. However, because this is not radio friendly at all, it will taper off very quickly and maybe only go top 20. Then, they will send out the second single which will be much more country-sounding and radio friendly and will do well, all the while pretending like "That Girl" never happened. Kind of like Dead Flowers -> White Liar for Miranda. Sugarland/Jennifer has always been pushing the boundaries of country music so it makes sense that her debut single is "out there" and sounds very different, but ultimately I don't think this will work on country radio.

First of all, I dont think this is the final version, is starts and ends too abruptly. And I dont think that guy voice saying "impressed" "second verse" are part of the final product. And the applause? So the final version could be a little bit different.

I like the sound, its different. I like the aproach of the song, being the "mistress" and no the one that was cheated. And if another woman is going to have success in country with no country songs better to be her than Taylor.

I love this. I hope it does well.

Whether or not it's country I'd rather listen to this than "chew tobacco, chew tobacco, chew tobacco, spit"

That's exactly how I feel, haha. I'm obviously going to be biased, but if "Sugarland" can get away with "Stuck Like Glue", then I think Jen can get away with "That Girl".

"Stuck Like Glue" didn't get away for me - but I much prefer this. I see it as going back to her Atlanta/Decatur club roots. She's always been a talented singer.

Meanwhile, Kristian Bush has been giving stage time to two of my favourite girls, Rebecca and Megan Lovell (AKA the duo, Larkin Poe), so the separate projects are working out well for me

I think the song is okay. I just can't get over the fact that it sounds familiar - to the point I want to sing different lyrics to it, yet I cannot identify the other song. Anyone else experience this?

She still sounds twangy to me (although much less). Maybe it's her tone lol.

Oh no a country song with twang lol. In all seriousness I like it a lot but that can just be because I'm going through Sugarland withdrawal and I'm tired of lets party because its summer and drink beer songs.
