    OCMS ("Carry Me Back" era)

This album has been out since last month, and has made a predictably strong impact on the Roots scene. On the AMA's own chart it's been solidly number one for the last few weeks, and seems to be the top choice of all the reporting stations. Interestingly, though, it's also appeared on six different Billboard charts (Bluegrass, Country, Folk, Independent Albums, Tastemaker Albums, and Billboard 200). In all except the last, it's made the top 30, and is number one in Bluegrass). Quite an achievement - and I suspect the Grammys will be watching.

Although, personally, I've never rated the Old Crows as my favourite band (I admit to being more of a female specialist ) - I have to admire their spirited combination of a modern entertainment outlook with a dedicated passion for Old Time Music. The title of this album is, in fact, quite appropriate, since it marks their most determined effort for some time to capture the spirit of early string band music.

There is, however, variety, with three slower tracks included . This is one of those - the thoughtfully worded "Ways of Man"

Hoiwever it is the string band stomps that are the main trademark of this album, and some are strongly evocative, not only of 1920s Appalachian music, but also of the music of the British Isles that were its more distant roots.
This is the band performing at the Opry (with Ketch Secor on lead) with a live performance of one of the album tracks, "Bootlegger,s Boy"
