Rascal Flatts have been my favorite country band for years, but I was very disappointed (and a little scared), when they signed with Big Machine. That said, they are also aware that BM is a newer, hotter label that can grant their artists better opportunties. Lyric Street didn't do much of anything for artists besides Rascal Flatts, and when they were about to close their doors there was nothing left for them, either.

Although Big Machine will spend more money on Taylor, it seems logical because she makes the biggest return investment out of any artist out right now. Older artists like Flatts and Martina are in different places than younger ones like Taylor & TBP, so it seems possible they're not interested in a more agressive approach. They all have families and different priorities from those artists who have the time and resources to invest in their careers at this point. Although Martina isn't selling like she used to, she was a big name at one point and can probably live off what she's made in the past. Martina hasn't been a big name in the industry, and hasn't been for a long time. That probably plays a big role in the fact that she is no longer marketed like she used to be. There's only so much a label can do, and even Big Machine can't do much at this point. Her new album, younger image and current sound helped her sell no better than she has in the past several years. She had a chance to do well, but since she did not I don't think it's unrealistic that she receives little help from her label at this point.

RF certainly aren't as big as they used to be, but they still do well at radio, and have decent album sales combined with big touring numbers. They will do fine for quite awhile, and it seems they try to embrace new marketing with Twitter and putting videos on their website and such. I'm sure Borchetta knows every artist is a valuable part of the label, otherwise he would not have signed them in the first place.

Although I think a lot of BM's marketing is excessive when it comes to Swift, a lot of it has to do with the fact that her core fanbase is full of young fans who have lots of disposable income to spend. The label is willing to pour money into her because her young fans spend that money and the cost of marketing is worth the risk. In a sense, I think every artist earns the amount of money spent on them, because Taylor put a lot of work into her career to be worth what she is today. Although I cannot stand Borchetta, I'm glad to see their is someone out there who is embracing new technology in order to help his label succeed, instead of shying away from it. There are millions of reasons why so many labels are suffering right now, but having more creative, current minds like Borchetta around would do a lot of good, in my mind.

Say what you want about Borchtta as a person, but his approach has changed this business in many positive ways, in my opinion. Enough with the old approach, because fresher ideas are needed if the industry wants to keep up with the times.

The only person benefitting from Scott's approach is Taylor. He reminds me of a used car salesman on those cheesy ads....lol

In the public eye, Taylor is the teenage girl who sleeps with guys to collect material for her juvenile pop trash albums.

CMT's Facebook page is the living proof that young adults and adults are DEAD TIRED of Taylame.

Sorry guys. My dislike for her has only GROWN over the past few years.

Joe Jonas, Connor Kennedy, John Mayer, Jake G., Zac Efron (?), Taylor Lautner, her 100 high school boyfriends.

Oh my God Taylor! YOU'RE SUCH A GREAT ROLE MODEL <3

Bear in mind though, that girl has a WILD imagination. She can write a song about a guy just based on one conversation (Enchanted) and she never even dated him. And I don't think she dated Cory ("Mine") or Zac Efron too.

Look at Red... the majority of the songs on the album is based on just one relationship with Jake G.... so it is a little unfair to say she has a ton of boyfriends just based on the number of love/breakup songs she has imo.

She's had, what, 5 in the past 4 years? That's a lot by some standards, I suppose, but it really isn't as much as people make it out to be.

She only dated Joe, Jake, John, Taylor, and Connor as far as I know.

Yeah. Plus I think there's a really long break between Jake and Connor.

Actually, between SN 2 years ago and Red now, there have really only been these 2 publicized relationships I think.

You may be correct in your statements about her relationships, but the fact can't be overlooked that many, if not all the relationships came when she needed to create buzz for something she was promoting! I'm convinced she's far from innocent in all these breakups! And I'm drawing that conclusion from recently posted clips from her interviews she's done this week and the upcoming one that will air today on the Katie show.

YEah, I don't think most folks care about the shere number of them. IT's the timing and the precieved "intensity" that she is asking us to accept.
But I know you know this. This is not news.
There is no doubt in anyones minds that this is what she does, and it is certainly in her half-witted smiles when she is talking about it in interviews.
It's borderline embarassing to watch her squirm and giggle saying "my last shread to dignity is in the fact that I'm the only one who knows which song is about which guy"!
I get that kids think this is intriguing, but I assure you adults have a very different view of it. And it's not attractive.
But like you all keep saying, No matter what the ethics, she and SB are making lots of money so it justifies her behavior.
I imagine that argument extends to "you would do it to if you could", well no. Nor would I want my children behaving that way for money or for attention.
The hypocricy continues to plague her that she writes songs about how much this all "hurts" and how she gets damaged by it, and yet she is the one perpetuating th whole thing just to make money!
I'm sorry but I don't know how you pink-paint this into something cute sweet or charming.
    I just don't.
(I will give you this, if she had just not told the world that all these silly songs were about famous men that she as dated and dumped or got dumped by, none of this would be happening. And maybe, just maybe we would be actually talking abou the music).
She is living by this sword, and I still believe she is going to die by it. Metaphorically!

On Monday, Borchetta, Taylor's dad and Taylor are really going to make a big splash when they announce they have bought the naming right to Bridgestone Arena and have renammed it the Taylor Swift Center just in time for the CMA's.

So I went and watched BeA.
First of all gorgeous. Very well suited video for the song.
It also has all the specific tags in place that represent Taylor as the awkward, shy but pretty girl in the big world looking for the man to come along and complete her.
But what came across also for me, maybe because so much of her personna is tied to dating (and loving to date),; is it just me or is it odd that the song should be about meeting this guy (the video makes it very clear) but most of the song is about comparing this guy to the guy before. I mean, almost too much. Like it is not this "Guy" specifically that she is smitten by, but the enjoyment she gains from comparing him to the last one.
I know alittle something about romance, I can tell you, you certainly don't want the person you are interested in, constantly comparing you to "the last one". Now, true that she does not express that sentiment openly, but with the video telling the story, it is like she is spending the entire courtship thinking about "the other guy".
HE didn't like this but you do. He liked that but I don't. You are like this, but he wasn't.........
I think it only became obvious with the video in place cause it does such a great job of creating all those "new experiences" and yet she, as the singer, spends the whole thing comparing him to "the last guy".
Some songs make a point that can and should be stated in about one line or so. But when the entire song is about one concept it becomes as if that one concept is all consuming.
Strange: I like the video, and I actually like the song (THIS IS NOT A COUNTRY SONG), but the combination of both is a bit contrary to me.
    Just odd.

Personally I think they could have saved a lot of those millions they spent as everything they did was over the top too much!! I don't care how much you like an artist, does anyone want that person shoved down their throat constantly and at every turn?? I don't know - maybe I'm wrong. I"m no fan of hers and will be so glad when that album drops and things cool down a little as I'm sick of changing the TV channels and radio channels so I don't have to see and listen to her at every turn. I can't believe other don't feel the same that are "slightly" interested in her. I try to pretend if it would be Carrie, would I want her to be on pizza boxes and everywhere like TS is and the answer is emphatically NO!! Wonder what Katy Perry and Rhianna and other pop stars really feel about her and all this publicity - they have got to feel like we do!!!

Naive question - can a person insist she be considered a country artist and never sing country?

Well she's country when it comes to awards and BB, the rest of the time she has little to do with country.

So there isn't an actual rule or whatever you want to call it that insists if you want to be considered country, you have to sing country; if you want to be considered a Christian singer, you have to sing Christian songs, rap, and so forth? You can just say you are a certain genre and you can sing anything you want?

I really don't see any of the other country artists wanting to be on pizza boxes. Papa Johns certaintly does not need Taylor to sell pizzas so I would have to think that Scott B. had to spend a whole lot of money to get Taylor on the pizza boxes. I don't know how much it cost to print up the pizza boxes with her on it but I would bet a whole lot since there are tons of Papa Johns in the country. I just wonder how many actual CDs were sold because of this.

Well don't you know that she is saving country music! At least that is what some of the people in Nashville keep telling us!
