I would say the theme of BA is child abuse, not a tornado. The tornado is used as a vehicle for the actual theme.
LBT's Tornado isn't about child abuse, therefore not the same theme.
Again, the amount of truck songs and, as Jim so kindly pointed out, woman-scorned songs at any given time in the top 30 at country radio tell me that country radio has no problem playing songs with similar themes, references, or ideas.
I'm not even sure why I'm bothering because we don't even know if they are releasing the title track as their second single. From the sounds of the previews, they've got some tough decisions to make in terms of singles this era.
I'm sorry I really don't get the whole Tornado overshadowing Blown Away concept. After listening to the previews the only thing they really have in common in a title. Personally I don't see it as a "strong" as compared to some of the others anyway. I love Sober and Night Owl along with a couple others.
I love LBT-- but I don't like that they have a song called Tornado right after Carrie released BA and used a twister in the video. Their video will have a tornado in it too, just like Carrie did. I don't like that.
You can say that BA is primarily about child abuse -- and it is-- but it is also about a tornado wrecking the house and blowing everything away.
You can't just say that BA is ONLY about child abuse. That is not true at all. It is clearly about a storm as well. The video highlights the twister and storm throughout.
The main theme of BA is child abuse. The imagery of a tornado is used to convey the feelings associated with that abuse. The idea of the tornado destroying the house is directly connected to the girl's feelings of wanting the abuse to end and for everything to be "blown away" so she can start fresh. The video does a great job of conveying this idea. Nobody said BA was ONLY about child abuse.
LBT haven't even confirmed that the title track will be released as a single. If they do release it as a single, I would hope the video has some tornado imagery given that it is the name of the song lol. Carrie doesn't have a trademark on tornadoes now. Other artists are allowed to use the imagery. You are free to dislike it.
I never even thought LBT was stealing thunder(no pun intended) I just thought for the health of their song LBT should just release another tune beside Tornado for their second single and then Tornado can have a fresh great start next summer, that's all - there's no ill will directed against LBT - I like them too and want to see them do well - I never thought releasing Tornado now would be a detriment to Blown Away
LBT is debuting a new song from album everyday until release day on their Facebook. However, it appears as though there is a "task" you must do to unlock the song each day. The first song they "debuted" was Pontoon, and you had to like their FB. Today, in order to listen to Pavement Ends you have to follow them on Twitter. I don't have Twitter, and I have a feeling I won't want to do some of the other tasks required lol. Just thought some people might be interested in this.
Unless I'm feeling really adventurous and decide to do this preview thing, I'll just wait the less than two weeks until release day. If anyone does decide to do this, please let us know what you think of the tracks.
Really guys? Like...really?? By this logic, Carrie can't possibly release DYTAM or WAW next, because OH GOODNESS, there is already a song about love on the radio, cant be done...
are we gonna throw stones at the weatherman now every time he calls for a tornado? He's CLEARLY copying Carrie, undoubtedly.
Come on now. nature gives very POWERFUL imagery, Carrie won't be the last to cover it (and to be fair, she is FAR from the first). Like many people have pointed out, some songs are written YEARS in advance of being selected for albums, and moreover, many album concepts/ideas/directions are decided MONTHS in advance of release dates (remember, this is one of the FIRST process in album production). Did we really expect LBT to completely change their ENTIRE album direction just because a song called Blown Away got released? Come on now -.- I'm sure that if Carrie put out Blown Away after Tornado, you would be up in arms at the people accusing her of being a copy-cat
yeah but both are still about tornados. lol Spin it anyway you want, but they are both still about twisters as well as their songs' main themes of child abuse/relationships.
But I don't care that much honestly-- I just wish they didn't have such a song on their album at this time as it is a very unfortunate coincidence.
However I do love LBT and I know they would never intentionally copy Carrie's idea or try to out do her or anything like that. I think this was just a terrible coincidence, and bad timing.
If It were SWSRN, I would not be so trusting-- but LBT and Carrie are friends. LBT is very nice and I do not believe for one second that they did this intentionally. I am just saying that it is an unfortunate coincidence, and I don't like it.
Congrats to LBT! I am so glad LBT finally got their #1! It's so unbelievable to think this is their first #1. They are far too talented to have to wait so long for this moment.
From Country Aircheck Insider's Artist News - 9/4:
» Pontoon Party:
"After working towards this for 13 years, it's an even sweeter reward than we dreamed." That's Kimberly Schlapman of Little Big Town, who are celebrating their first and long-sought No. 1 single with "Pontoon." "We're just soaking it all in, and it feels so good. We'll be celebrating this for awhile. We can't say thank you enough." For an idea of the band's level of excitement, check out this clip they made for fans and industry supporters. The platinum-certified "Pontoon" is the first single from their new album Tornado, which lands Sept. 11.
Saying Tornado and Blown Away have the same themes is like saying Fancy and Prostitute (by GN'R) have the same themes... even though Fancy really is about a prostitute and Prostitute is about Slash.
"BUT THEY BOTH FEATURE PROSTITUTES."
Lol.
'Bout dang time LBT got a #1 - so happy for them!
Oddly many casual music listeners go by the most obvious when describing what a song is about-" Tornado" and "Blown Away" are both about twisters, as major a theme as you can get - as one poster on the Blown Away video said Wow , I never listened to the story in this song before , I just thought it was about a twister

LBT on the cover of the new Country Weekly - sounds like I renewed my subscription just in time![]()
Nice review from Slant.
I saw the CW cover, Rachel. It's so nice to see them getting this much positive attention!
Only a few more days until I can listen to the whole album!! So pumped.
