    TMZ is reporting....

    CBC as well....
Pop singer Whitney Houston dead at 48 - World - CBC News

Whitney Houston, who reigned as pop music's queen until her majestic voice and regal image were ravaged by drug use, has died. She was 48.
Publicist Kristen Foster said Saturday that the singer had died, but the cause and the location of her death were unclear.
At her peak in the 1980s and `90s, Houston the golden girl of the music industry and one of the world's best-selling artists.
Among her hits were "How Will I Know," "Saving All My Love for You" and "I Will Always Love You." She won multiple Grammys including album and record of the year.
Her success carried her beyond music to movies like "The Bodyguard."
But by the end of her career, drug use took its toll as her record sales plummeted and her voice became raspy and hoarse.

OMG so sad! I loved her! She was one of the first cds I ever bought!

Whitney was supposed to attend the Clive Davis Grammy party tonight! She was very close to Clive. I wonder if the party will be cancelled??

RIP Whitney... I've been a fan of her for so long... There's nothing else to add, drugs... I will never get that.

Yes, they were on some show like Access Hollywood and they were talking about working together. It is so sad, I loved her singing and owned several of her CDs.

Ditto.... I am really sad, almost crying. She was an amazing singer in her prime days... May she rest in peace.

We'll have to wait and see what caused it for sure, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was either drugs or the long term effects they have.

Drug and/or alcohol addiction is a hell of a disease, whether it was the cause here or not. R.I.P. either way.

So sad since I remember when she sang in the early part of her career.

Her voice was so powerful but ruined by drugs and drinking.

    RIP Whitney.
I feel for her family including her mother and child.

I'm shocked with this news, really. I knew she recently was doing a movie with Jordin Sparks, so I thought she was doing good.

And one day before the Grammys, the same day of the Clive Davis' party, who was so close to her.

Drugs are the worst thing out there.

This is very sad. My prayers are with her daughter and the rest of her loved ones.
I really wanted to believe this wasn't true, but it really appears that it is. This will cast a big shadow over the Grammys tomorrow night.
Things were just starting to look like they were turning around for Whitney. She had filmed Sparkle with Jordin Sparks, and was looking quite well lately. There was just a rumor yesterday that she was being considered for a judging position on X Factor.
Another singer gone too soon. Hopefully she can be remembered for her great talent, and not for the drama that has surrounded her for the last several years.
