^Sometimes. They've become more of Oscar predictors recently, but you sometimes get a big British winner over a frontrunner. Geoffrey Rush over Christian Bale (Rush was undoubtedly in the more British film here), Dev Patel over Mahershala Ali, Colin Firth over Jeff Bridges, even Emmanuelle Riva over Jennifer Lawrence if you want to talk European rather than British. Plus they almost always go British if the frontrunner for Oscar isn't nominated. Mulligan in 2010, Bonham Carter in 2011, Winslet in 2017, Ejiofor in 2014, arguably Mark Rylance in 2016.
^Wow, you know your stuff. Lol
I am currently enjoying 31 Days of Oscar on TCM. Recording and watching a ton of old movies. I’m trying to watch all the movies considered the ‘greatest’ of all-time. I’ve seen most of the more recent ones but not the oldies. I’m actually working on lists of my picks for the ‘greatest’ of all-time. When I’m finished I’ll post them.
I am so late to the party but I am finally catching up on the nominated movies.
I adored Bohemian Rhapsody - so impressed with his portrayal of Freddie. Damn it was great.
But the film that utterly surprised me abd drew me in was Green Book. Wow that was powerful. I absolutely loved it.
Black Panther and A Star is Born we’re great too- but my top 2 favs were Green Book and Bohemian Rhapsody.

I think I've watched less than 15 films in the past 14 months or so because of work, so I'm totally out of the loop. I'm trying to catch up right now and have put a few titles on my to-watch list.
Anyways, I finally sat down to watch Shoplifters a few nights ago. I loved it. Hirokazu Koreeda just knows how to pull at your heartstrings with his films. The film is beautiful, yet devastating. The characters are rich and relatable, and even when they make a bad decision, you know where it comes from. I hope this film will win the Oscar.
^I want to see Shoplifters soooo badly!

^ Do it. It's so good.
I finished watching Cold War just now. It's good, but not as good as the director's previous film Ida. I definitely prefer Shoplifters over it. Fingers crossed Koreeda will win the Oscar.
^I think it'll go to Roma.
After watching "The Favourite," I can't figure out why Olivia Colman is considered lead and Rachel and Emma are supporting. I could see it vice-versa. It definitely seemed like Rachel and Emma had more screen time. I guess they thought there would be less competition in Supporting.
I think they're all leads. But I think it's because they wanted all 3 nominated, so it was always going to be one in Lead and two in Supporting. Olivia would've been a surefire win in Supporting.
Yeah, I would have considered Emma the lead, personally. With Rachel and Olivia in Supporting.
What's Kacey Musgraves doing at the Oscars?
^I think she's presenting the performance for Ballad of Buster Scruggs's song.
I love Melissa McCarthy!!!
The Costume Design presentation was perfection, lol.
I loved Adam Lambert and the Queen opening. Since then it’s been a bit dull. Clever costumes though for best costume category. Lol Thst was hilarious.
I was rooting for either Amy Adams or Rachel Weiz for supporting. I like Regina King but I guess her movie was the one I haven’t seen yet.
Why is Kacey Musgraves there? She really has nothing to do with Hollywood. Oh well. Lol
The Oscars are disappointing me over and over. Bohemian Rhapsody will go at least 4/5 and I am so sad
Yay Ali won for Green Book! That was my fav movie!
So far the only real highlight has been Melissa McCarthy presenting. I can't really judge Supporting Actress because I haven't seen "If Beale Street Could Talk". Mahershala Ali was great in "Green Book" but since he's already an Oscar winner I was rooting for someone else to win.
