    * I like womens voices because they are often unique unto themselves and they have characteristics that are unique to the individual. When I started listening to country, I could not distiguish any one voice from another, it all sounded the same to me ha ha ha... The first voices that I started to identify as individual were the womens voices.

I appreciate different styles and sounds to womens voices, but strength in ones ability and agility within their ability is a real must for me.
In a world where its so easy to make any voice sound good in the studio, I really need and want a voice tnat is interesting to me all by itself.

For me a voice like Taylor/Miranda/Cassadee/Lauren/Kellie P.... do not stand alone as a voice of interest. When they are given the opportunity to put that voice into an arrangement of a well produced song, sure it sound perfectly suitable. But not unique special or engaging to me.

Sara Evans voice is ironically interesting to me even though she is not a great singer, still the voice as its own unique character.
Dolly is another with such a wonderfully unique voice. So beautifully and tastefully used to her own music.
Allison Krauss is a stand alone that is "so" unique that she would almost not be a consideration for me at all. But her use of her instrument is so spellbinding, I can not help but be drawn into anything she does. "Whiskey Lullaby" is about as heartbreaking a song as I have even heard and without her unique voice, I don't think it would be as powerful.

So I don't like to beat up on women in country at all.
I just thought when i came into the genre with carrie, that the industry favored full adequate female vocalists like trisha YEarwood. And shortly after Carrie came along came vocalists like Miranda and Taylor, both of which do not fall into a catagory for me of solid vocal chops.

Not enough to at least keep me from commenting about them, sorry about that.

I promise you, if it were sonny sweeney and Jamie O'neal getting all the attention, I would keep my mouth shut, cause those are some solid vocalists without doubt!

(I still have a very big questionmark with regard to Kree, I hav not heard anything that allows me to see the artist within. Very talented singer, great voice, but an artist painting pictures of the world with her unique brush? I'm just not so sure.)

    -Ashley Monroe
    -Holly Williams
    -Brandy Clark
    -Lauren Alaina

    -Lucy Hale

...and I'm sure more than I unfortunately have not been introduced to yet because radio refuses to give them a genuine shot.

    Other women in Country

Ashley Monroe, Kellie Pickler, Danielle Bradbury and Kacey would be my picks.
Lauren Alania has an awesome voice, but I think she hurt herself by trying to conform. Kellie Coffee, Jessica Andrews, and Jamie O' Neal were great years ago, among many others.
Although it would be fantastic to have more women on radio, I commend them for sacrificing mainstream success for having to water down their styles and play the corporate game.
I will say, though, sometimes I don't think it's such a bad thing that so many females are outside of radio. Without the pressure of being a huge superstar, there is no pressure to conform and become like every other artist out there.
That said, I stopped listening to the radio regularly about 5 years ago, and I don't regret it at all. Radio lacks variety, and the overrun of males doing the exact same thing is beyond old.

    Ouch!
I'm glad she said it and not me.

But I am still really glad she said it!

And I even like some party bro beer guzzling country songs.
    But enough is enough!!!!!!!!!

More and more artists speaking out against bro-country. I love it. The artists themselves are the ones with the power to change this.

I really think Maggie Rose would be a hit with people if radio would just take a chance with her. She has a very "contemporary country style" and a killer voice. I wish that Trisha Yearwood would release some new music and that would get played. In addition to those I wish radio would play:

more Sara Evans (she seems to still be having moderate success in an ageist and sexist business)
Kellie Pickler (needs FV nomination already)
    Kacey Musgraves
    Ashley Monroe
    Brandy Clark
    Sunny Sweeney
    and Jennifer Nettles
