Please Say A Prayer Tonight ):

    Hey guys,

We had some really bad storms in my hometown tonight and we had a tornado touchdown (the first ever in this town). No injuries have been reported and everyone is safe, but there is horrific damage and at least 75 homes were destroyed. The worst damage was done downtown and in the neighborhood where my best friend lives (They were OK, and there's minimal damage to their house).

I grew up in this town and it made me who I am; I couldn't imagine what would have happened if worse had happened. . I'm finishing up my current semester of college so I can't be home with my family, but I wish I could be. Nothing like this has ever happened here, and it's surreal.

I know it's cliché, but never take your blessings for granted, because you'll never know what will happen tomorrow. It makes me emotional to even think about what would've happened to a family member or friend of mine. . Tell your family you love them tonight, guys.

I would really appreciate it if you could keep us in your prayers and hope we can get through this together. This song hit me harder than ever before tonight, thank you Carrie. <3

I knew where you were from and yet for some reason when I heard the county it never dawned on me. Then I heard the name of the town and you were the first person I thought of.

I'm glad everyone is alright. Although, and don't take this the wrong way. I'm thankful as well. As close as our hometowns actually are to each other, I'm thankful this wasn't here. Easily could have been(and I'm seeing lightning as we speak, luckily nothing bad).

I'll definitely say a prayer tonight! I'm so relieved you all are okay; the damage is expensive, but homes can be replaced, people can't.

You and your family are in my prayers. I am also so glad that there were no lives lost. I know the emotional toll will still be there so I will keep them in my prayers to get through this tragedy.

Praying for you, your family, your friend and everyone in your hometown. Tornadoes are tough. At least no one was hurt. Everyone will come together and bring your town back from the damage. Hang in there!!

I am also glad that there was no lives lost. Remember that we can loose things and get them back eventually. It is the people we loose that are irreplaceable.

Hey cff, I just read your post. Please know that my family and my prayers are with you, your family and all the people who went through the loss. I have volunteered in tornado ravished areas and I know how tragic it is to folks.

My prayers are with the people of your town. It's good that no lives were lost. As others have said, material things can be replaced, but lives can't.

Thank you so much guys, I really appreciate it. It still feels surreal, I even heard it made the national news. We were so lucky that no lives were lost; I feel like it truly is a miracle, after seeing photos of the terrible damage. Our town has been through tragedy before, and I feel like living in a small town is a blessing; everyone is already pitching in and trying to do what they can to help. The schools are closed so the families who lost their homes can have temporary shelter.

    Tom,

That's not selfish at all; I would feel the same way if a similar event happened in Ohio. That's kinda wild that you know where it is; it's a really small town and it's crazy to see it everywhere. The weirder thing is we've been talking about climate change and global warming in my science class this week;it's weird that a tornado hit when we were talking about such a thing. It hits home in more ways than one.

My family was extremely lucky; we live a few minutes from downtown, but we didn't have any damage to our house, and I don't think any of the surrounding houses did either. A lot of the businesses downtown are in rough shape, and a ton of the houses are gone; a lot of the downtown houses are older, and I've heard that a lot of them are still there because of it.

I saw a video last night and someone said our Cider Mill would've been completely gone had the tree that hit it fallen the opposite way. It really just makes me think someone was watching over our town last night, considering that our whole town could've been destroyed and the fact that little things like that did not happen is pretty mind-blowing to me.

I was having a hard time sleeping last night and I was listening to my Ipod to try to get my mind off everything. Carrie's HGTA came on and I swear I have never had that kind of calm come over me before. I literally felt like I was closer to God; it was wild, but I know it was real and I felt like He was sending me a sign that He was with us yesterday. Once again it's Carrie to the rescue...I love her more than ever now.

I am so glad that you were able to find a little peace listening to HGTA by Carrie. That is an amazing story of hope in the midst of tragedy in that town. I am also so glad that no one lost their life to the horrible tornado. It always seems so far removed until it happens to you or to someone you know then it is hard, so I am glad you were able to find some rest and peace.

cff, I live in New Jersey and this even made the New York news with footage of your town -- I'm sure it was your hometown (Michigan). Hope you are able to sleep tonight.

Yes, that was it; it's such a small town, it's so odd to see it on the news, let alone see it on the news for something like this. I even saw it made CNN this morning and they showed the video footage of the tornado coming through. My professor brought it up in my Science class earlier today too; we're talking about global warming and natural disasters and stuff like that.

Good news is they're already spreading the word to try and get donations and housing for the displaced, which is a little comforting. It's horrible to know something like this happened, but it's great to know that the community is pitching in to help their neighbors and offering assistance as soon as possible. If there's anything that a tragedy like this show it's that the love and support of other people can heal anything. What's important is that no one was hurt, and I'm really proud of the town and the way that we're coming together. I know it's going to take a long time, but we will get back to normal and slowly rebuild what's gone. Thanks for all of your concern, you guys are amazing. It makes anybody feel better to hear prayers and words of encouragement in a time of need.

Edit: Someone just posted an article on my Facebook feed from our local news station...someone found a ruby red slipper in the debris! Weird.
