Allegations of sexual abuse of clients spread to the music business

Sadly (but perhaps not surprisingly), the recent scandals alleging abuse of the relationship between power brokers and their artist clients are spreading to Country Music. The firm highlighted in this article is said to be the busiest PR company in the format (its clients range from big name "legacy" artists to hopeful newcomers (but apparently do not involve current leading chart acts.) There appears to be some confusion in reports of the firm's reaction to the allegations - but, worryingly, the executive at the centre of the allegations appears to have been replaced by a long term associate, whom some employees accuse of being part of the same culture of behaviour.

That's so sad and scary. There seems to be so much sexual abuse.

Sexual abuse happens everywhere, and sexual harassment is perhaps even more prevalent. I was sexually abused ten years ago too and I can absolutely understand the strength it takes to come forward to tell your story.

I came across this a few days ago too. If you guys remember a very promising rising country artist, Katie Armiger, who never really got the attention that she deserved. She talked about how she was blacklisted from the industry after telling her story of sexual harassment.

Very sorry to hear of your experience, Momin. You are right - it's very prevalent, not least in situations where a climate of power prevails, such as employment, entertainment and politics. Organizations such as the church, armed forces and police have also been exposed to abuse scandals. The unequal relationship between the perpetrator and the victim often contributes to the trauma and difficulty of speaking about the incidents. The present exposure is breaking a dam of past incidents.

It's sad to see people coming forward with their stories after so many years but it needed to happen nonetheless. Better late than never. At least people in the future would be more aware and proactive about taking action.
