The first post-Mubarak Egyptian presidential election is scheduled to take place on May 23rd/24th.
If no candidate gains 50% of the vote, the top two candidates receiving the most votes advance to a runoff held on June 16th/17th
There are 11 candidates to take part in the election (originally 23 people had registered before 10 disqualified, 2 withdrew)
The winner will become the 5th President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Egypt is the most populous Arab state and can be considered the center of the Arab world.
Let's hope that this election will take EGYPT and all the Egyptian people to a peaceful and prosperous future

Among the candidates, Mr. Amr Moussa عمرو موسى - ex-Secretary-General of the Arab League and former Foreign Minister under Mubarak has gained lots of attentions in the opinion polls.
Other notable candidates are Dr. Abdel-Moneim Abul-Fotouh عبد المنعم ابو الفتوح - former member of the Muslim Brotherhood, Mr. Ahmed Shafik أحمد شفيق - last Prime Minister under Mubarak, Mr. Mohamed Mursi محمد مرسى - Chairman of the Freedom and Justice Party(the current largest party in Egypt, affiliating to the Muslim Brotherhood) and Mr. Hamdeen Sabbahi حمدين صباحي - Chairman of the Dignity Party (an opposition party under Mubarak)

The official result has not been announced yet, but according to the Muslim Brotherhood, Mr. Mohamed Mursi محمد مرسى will face Mr. Ahmed Shafik أحمد شفيق in Egyptian presidential runoff on June 16th/17th
