I was watching Carrie's performance of Desperado just last night. I love that she sings it so differently from anyone else does. Carrie is a master at that. She doesn't just sing covers exactly like the originals. That performance was perfection.

She puts a different twist of some kind on all of her covers and does it so well it's seamless

Three cheers again for the way Joe Galante always had her back.Even if he didn't always win.She may not have done her own song but she owned.I remember watching it form a hotel room in Knoxville and was wowed SAR,Desperado and LITFL...3 different styles delivered within 15 minutes and nailed them all.So fitting they gave her BNA right after. :-)
Hmm. I don't recall any controversy over Carrie's first Grammys. Did I miss something? It was a perfect night for Carrie.

I actually prefer opportunities like Grammy tributes to seeing another performance of one of the artist's current or recent radio songs. The tributes give more of a chance to show the artist's versatility and feel for different styles and eras. "Desperado" and "New San Antonio Rose" are two of my favourite Carrie performances - and they came at just the right time to show a wider audience the interpretive stylistic range Carrie was capable of.

("Life in the Fast Lane" is a number that I think of primarily as an instrumental-led, rather than a vocal-led number, and the Grammy tribute didn't feature as much of the playing as I would have liked. I must confess, I'm not that keen on Gary LeVox's performance style - but Carrie catches the '70s Country Rock atmosphere with her stage movements. It certainly would have been interesting to see what Carrie made of this singing alone, with Joe Don Rooney's lead and Jay DeMarcus's bass)

Based on the backgrounds behind Carrie and John, I think their hosting segments will be completely separate. I think they'll just be little recorded snippets to intro different moments and performances. Much like those "I love the 90s" specials that used to be on VH1 or whatever music channel. I think the difference is that John and Carrie will be moving around or more mobile in their segments; whereas, other artists who are commenting will be seated in their interviews.
"Thank you for that ‘Captain Obvious’ sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the ‘right’ notes as well."
-Kelly Clarkson to Scott Borchetta about American Idol artists
    Thanks so much Danielle!

I am enjoying this alot. I think Carrie is doing very well, as is John Legend. I wish they would let her not read so much from a script though as I think she would do even better if she could speak more from her heart instead of a teleprompter...but I guess they don't really allow that. haha

I hope they show a Carrie performance soon. I am just watching it now and am about a half hour in.
