Taste of Country's 30 most Powerful Women of Country

    Carrie comes in at #5

Carrie Underwood - Country's Most Powerful Women of All Time

For a decade country fans have been able to count on the sun rising and Carrie Underwood songs on the radio. Her nearly unprecedented string of hits earns her a high placement on this list of country music’s most powerful women, but the depth and value of her most inspiring songs makes her a Top 5 female singer who may be just getting started.Only once has an Underwood single finished outside the Top 2 on the Billboard Airplay chart, but it’s difficult to argue that the platinum-selling “Something in the Water” (it peaked at No. 3) was a radio miss. In fact, it’s among Underwood’s most meaningful songs, which is a true testament of faith that unified when so many social factors were working to divide. “See You Again” and her debut “Jesus Take the Wheel” do the same, while others like “Before He Cheats,” “Blown Away,” “Two Black Cadillacs” and “Church Bells” work a very different edge. No one can ever accuse the first country American Idol of releasing fluff.
True power is characterized by how you behave off stage, however, and Underwood has been the epitome of class despite transitioning from the high pressure world of reality television to Music City with high expectations. The Oklahoman always set the highest example for the next generation of singers, and that’s not to say she has avoided controversy. The devout Christian embraces gay marriage and speaks out against animal issues, but it’s hard to label her as outspoken.
Underwood combines the power of Martina McBride with the courage of female artists Loretta Lynn and the Dixie Chicks. Each album has brought innovation to the format, and while she’s yet to win an Entertainer of the Year, she’s as much a part of the CMAs as the trophy itself. Her co-hosting gig with Brad Paisley is can’t-miss television.

"True power is characterized by how you behave off stage"
hmmm, lets see if their top 4 follows this rule

The top 4 should be surprising that is for sure.....

Dolly and Reba of course given where they are in the industry should definitely be 1 & 2. But what constitutes power??

People didn't vote. We tweeted and retweeted, put it on facebook, but Carrie's numbers rarely changed. I agree with the top 5, except Carrie and Miranda should be switched.

    it wasn't fan voted

Commercial success, influence and career longevity were factors in deciding the best female singers in country music history. Pure vocals and sharp songwriting also weighed heavily, especially in deciding the Top 10. While there was tremendous debate about which artists to include, the Taste of Country staff and a panel of country experts didn’t debate No. 1.
Lambert above Carrie is just comical but not surprising with this group of yahoos

    Right. It says "help" decide.

Just nine days remain in this month-long revealing of country music’s most powerful women. Who do you think should be No. 1?
Sound off here to help decide the most powerful female country singer of all time. It’s an impressive list to choose from, but if you want to write in another candidate you’re welcome to do so in the comments section below. Modern stars like Carrie Underwood and legends like Reba McEntire will be featured deep inside the Top 10. Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline and Miranda Lambert? You can anticipate them all as each day’s artist is uncovered.
Throughout September Taste of Country has been celebrating the great women of country music, one day at a time. Legends like the Judds and Linda Ronstadt have already been named, as have contemporary artists including Martina McBride and Kacey Musgraves. Hit songs, albums, overall influence and pure talent were considered in ranking the 30 women chosen. The No. 1 artist will be revealed at 11AM CT on Sept. 30. Flip through the gallery above to see who’s been revealed thus far, and vote as often as once per hour in the poll below to let us know your No. 1 pick!

By EVERY standard and measuring stick EXCEPT for the bought and paid for country music awards, Carrie Underwood resoundingly TROUNCES Miranda Lambert. EVERY SINGLE ONE!!!!!

Perhaps they included Miranda's ability to win country music awards, even though that power is because she's with WME. These kind of ranking lists are usually pretty pointless, anyway. They rarely get it right.

What a joke! Most people outside of country music still do not know who she is except maybe for tabloid divorce of Blake. They k is Blake but not Miranda! How is she even remotely more powerful than Carrie?

Bs. Her behavior is certainly not better than Carrie’s by any means. Moreover if you look st the stats Carrie destroys her in sales awards and radio success.

    What bs.

Exactly! No one would dispute that Dolly Loretta and Reba are still above Carrie as they are legends and she is still in her prime. But Miranda??? Hell no!

And if the real facts would evolve even though Patsy Cline was #6 here, she technically would IMO be ranked in the Top 3. Even though she died in 1963, her legacy and influence to the country music industry has been a huge impact even till today..... Her music still sells.....

If you read the comments underneath the article, there is one by a reader describing himself as an office manager, which says:

"Don't get me wrong, I like Carrie Underwood and all but it's strange to see her courage compared to that of the Dixie Chicks. I distinctly remember seeing her among the artists who refused to applaud for them when they performed at a CMA awards show shortly after they criticized former president Bush ."

To set the record straight, his memory appears mistaken on that point. The Dixie Chicks' "incident" was in 2003. There is no way Carrie could have been seen among the artists applauding or not applauding them at an award show "soon after", as she did not emerge onto the national scene until 2005, and the Dixie Chicks did not appear at any more CMA Award shows until last year

Billy Dukes pointed that fact out in the comments on the article.
