Jason Aldean, Kid Rock, Carrie Underwood: See how much NYS Fair performers got paid in 2014 | syracuse.com

    Wow

Not only was Jason Aldean the only artist to sell out the NYS Fair grandstand this year, he was the most expensive performer with a sticker price of nearly three-quarters of a million dollars.
Concerts at the grandstand in 2014 drew nearly 69,000 fans -- a healthy leap from 2013. That increase was matched by box office revenues for the eight concerts, which totaled more than the combined cost of the performers.
In total, the Fair spent $3,631,750 on concerts at the grandstand and brought in $3,684,766 in ticket sales. That's a net gain of $53,016. The grandstand also makes money from concessions and merchandise sales and has expenses related to personnel and management. But the baseline suggests that, on the whole, the grandstand was profitable this year.
Country singer Jason Aldean was the highest-paid performer with a $540,000 guarantee plus 85% of gross box office receipts over $775,000. His show sold out the grandstand and did over $1.1 million at the box office, earning Aldean a total of $720,000.
Phillip Phillips was the most expensive performer at Chevy Court, with a price tag of $150,000. That's just ahead of Jason Derulo -- one of this year's most popular acts at the free series at the Court -- who cost $130,000.
State Fair concerts are booked by Triangle Talent out of Louisville, Ky. The promoter's five-year contract with the fair expires after next year.

I was a little surprised that Aldean pulls in that much money for an appearance.

Pulling in the $540k would be a really nice payday but to also get 85% of the gate is a really nice job by his people to land that deal.

Wow, Brad Paisley is seriously over paid. Why would they do that, though? It should be quite obvious to them from his ever-declining album and single sales.

Florida-Georgia Line's shocking, but at the same time you'll need to remember that they are really, really new, and are a one-hit wonder to New York.

To me, and perhaps the entire world, Carrie Underwood is much more of a megastar than Jason Aldean even though she is paid less than Aldean.

Coming from a background as a college student booking entertainment with a group of other students and a six-budget budget for the entire year, I assume FGL were booked at $50k a long time ago.

My college booked a comedian, Bo Burnham after he started to get popular on YouTube, for a four figure fee. VERY shortly after he was booked, he landed a few specials and his fee jumped to five figures. Lucky for us, his appearance had to be postponed and he was STILL getting more popular, but we still paid the original booking fee.

FGL probably has well-over $100k in appearance and performing fees now, but the NY fair could have booked them in early 2013 or even in 2012 when they weren't a headlining act.

$500K for Carrie is about right- though I think she can bank more in some richer areas.

Jason Aldean is a beast when it comes to touring numbers. Not sure what the big draw is there- he is ok but nothing exciting. But he sells out venues like crazy.

I agree to bolded part. I wouldn't pay any money to see him.

That seems to be the way that it always works. The lesser talented artist always sell out their concerts a lot easier than more talented artists. Garth brooks is a good example. I think he is more talented than Jason, but look at how much better he did in concert than some of his more talented counterparts. Look at Taylor Swift, if you judge just her singing ability she is nothing special, and yet she does great. It just is what it is.

Not sure if I get it.

The "Price" is what you have to pay to book those artists?

Madonna can't sing to save her life and she is the biggest selling female artist ever, "singing ability" is overrated when it comes to putting people in the building.

Yes, all the artists on the list with no ticket sales and attendance figures were openers.

I think Jason still would have sold out but it sure helped his ticket sales that he had FGL as openers.

Just think - if I had half a million to splash out on a private concert, I could choose between Carrie Underwood or Kid Rock! (I'd spend days agonizing over that choice - it's a tough life being rich!)

I wanted to comment on this but my nose is so plugged up I would just sound like Jason singing. There is no accounting for wasteful spending habits.
