Rihanna, Springsteen, Underwood in HBO Vets Day concert - Nov. 11

Rihanna, Springsteen, Underwood in HBO Vets Day concert

Rihanna, Bruce Springsteen and Carrie Underwood are among the headliners for a free Veterans' Day concert on the National Mall in Washington, to be aired on HBO in an unusual partnership with Starbucks.

The concert, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, is aimed at raising awareness for veterans' support groups and will direct viewers to support related charities. Also on the bill: Eminem, Dave Grohl, Metallica, Zac Brown Band, Jamie Foxx and John Oliver, along with appearances by Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.

The Concert for Valor honors "the courage and sacrifice of America's veterans and their families," HBO says, and will be produced by Hanks and partner Gary Goetzman, behind Band of Brothers and The Pacific, and directed by Joel Gallen, who has handled Rock Hall of Fame specials and several live disaster-relief fundraising concerts.

Local cable systems can make the concert available to non-HBO subscribers, and the event marks the pay-cable network's first programming partnership with a corporate sponsor, the company says. (It does not accept advertising).

Starbucks chief Howard Schultz is a major supporter of veterans, and has committed to hiring 10,000 of them or their spouses over the next five years. The coffee giant will promote the concert in its stores.

Carrie is far from lazy even when pregnant. She keeps on staying busy.

First Global Citizens and now this? Get that mainstream exposure Carrie. And it's for a good cause. I think it's been a while since Carrie's last veterans performance.

Girl DOES NOT STOP!!! I'm guessing Keep Us Safe is a sure thing. I wonder if she'll get a whole set like the GC Festival or just one song.

Keep Us Safe, See You Again and Just A Dream are her most military based songs. Although JAD has been out of her set list for quite sometime now. It all depends if she gets a set or not. If it's just one song Keep Us Safe is a shoe-in.

Carrie is constantly surprising us. She is more than making up for not putting out her 5th album. I don't think we can complain at all. GO CARRIE!!!

I saw on the ad on another thread that Dave Grohl will be there. Any chance he and Carrie could collab on the song from the Foo Fighters documentary?
