10 Best Country Singles of 2013: 615 Picks

    7. "Two Black Cadillacs" - Carrie Underwood

A little romance, a lot of deception, and a plot line that has the cheating boyfriend getting his? It might sound like an episode of "Dynasty," but Underwood gave this a stark and cold reading that should shout out to men everywhere "Don't try this at home... or anywhere else."

I'm not sure I agree that those are the 10 best singles overall at country radio, but to each their own. Glad Carrie was included on the list as well as Jennifer Nettles.

Glad Carrie made the list but not too many others I'd have to agree with.

I'd agree with those three - and also with "Goodbye Town"
(Highway Don't Care was a brave try at conveying a relentless sense of desperation, enlivened by Urban's guitar - but the two vocal parts were both too repetitive for my taste.)

What I particularly like about their brief comment on Carrie's strong co-write is this line:
"Underwood gave this a stark and cold reading"
This is something that Carrie is given too little credit for - her ability to get into the mood and spirit of a song, and give it an interpretation that really brings out its meaning.
in a Mainstream radio format too often dominated by chirpy, bouncy, feel-good songs, with about as much depth of meaning as a squashed beer can, it's refreshing to find that.

A.K.A. Carrie Underwood is like Reba McEntire I feel.
