An example of why she will be honored. This morning was the first I knew of this. If info posted on another thread, let me know and I'll delete this one.

Hands On Nashville stages third fundraising dinner

Hands On Nashville (HON) hosted its third annual fundraising and awareness dinner, Show Of Hands, on Oct. 14 at the Hutton Hotel. The event, sponsored by Carrie Underwood, Mike Fisher and Johnathon and Newman Arndt, offered a sparkling wine reception followed by dinner in the Vista Ballroom. Jeff Alfiero and his band played American songbook and jazz standards during dinner.
Brian Williams, president & CEO of Hands On Nashville, spoke about the agency’s role in inspiring Nashville’s culture of service, citing the city’s highest-ever volunteerism ranking at 14th among the nation’s 51 largest cities. Brian also highlighted several of HON’s signature programs, including the Home Energy Savings Program and the Urban Agriculture Program.

Williams introduced a short video that showed HON volunteers in action, as well as the impact the agency makes on the community.
The video followed four volunteer initiatives and included volunteer interviews. (Hands On Nashville offers 400-plus volunteer opportunities every month, and connected 117,500 volunteers to service in 2012.)
Emma Fischer, a junior at Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet and a dedicated volunteer with Hands On Nashville’s Urban Agriculture Program, also addressed the crowd. Fischer is leading her peers in an agriculture-focused service as well as teaching healthy eating choices.
George Armistead, a member of Hands On Nashville’s Advisory Council, spoke about the important work that Hands On Nashville volunteers — such as Fischer — are doing to address Nashville’s critical needs.
Armistead also asked guests to join him in making a gift to Hands On Nashville to allow the organization to maintain its high level of services to the community.
