Willie Nelson “To All The Girls…” Album Review

    To All The Girls…
is the latest release from country legend Willie Nelson, but it’s an album with a twist, as we see him teaming up with some of the most talented female stars of pop, soul, and of course, country.
This album from the seven time Grammy award winner, marks the third release in the just 16 months since Nelson joined Legacy Recordings. The album also coincides with his 80th birthday year, but as he impressively demonstrates, Nelson is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down.
The opener, From Here To The Moon And Back, sees Nelson teaming up with the lady often referred to as the Queen of Country, the one and only Dolly Parton. The track offers a rare magic that can only be created by the undeniable chemistry of two of the genre’s most recognisable figures. If this is a sign of what’s to follow, we’re in for a treat.
Following Dolly is Miranda Lambert on the track She Was No Good For Me. Both Miranda and Carrie Underwood (featured on Always On My Mind), who have both at times been criticised by purists of the genre for their pop influences, demonstrate Country music at its best. Miranda’s twang blends perfectly with Nelson’s gritty tone, whilst the effortless purity of Carrie’s voice compliments Nelson perfectly on the Brenda Lee classic.
As a whole, the album has a definite chilled out sound, utilising mainly slower to mid-tempo tracks previously demonstrated on She Was No Good For Me and Always On My Mind as well as the beautiful Far Away Places with Sheryl Crow, Have You Ever Seen The Rain with Paula Nelson and the stunningly haunting Somewhere Between with Loretta Lynn.
However, we do begin to see Nelson speed things up a bit on the tracks Bloody Mary Morning with Wynonna Judd and After The Fire Is Gone with Tina Rose. The latter of which closes the CD with an undeniably big country bang.
Listening to To All The Girls…, it’s clear why Nelson is one of the most iconic figures in country music, with over 200 albums to date. Undeniably, this is an album with a true country sound. With so many unique mixes and big names from the world of modern and traditional country music, there is truly something for everyone.

    Nice!!

Glad to know someone is listening to Carries country voice.
Anyone who can't hear the country in her voice is too busy having a predetermined opinion to really be capable of listening.

I presume this is specifically mentioned for the benefit of all the professional members that vote for the CMA nominees.

Yeah, it's really kind of ironic. All the haters talk about is the twang in her voice....and how can she possibly sing SOM and Yesterday?!!!!
