I actually really liked Christian Boyle in Smash. I am not as familiar with the other names but will go and review them now.

Don't forget Madkat that the Mother Abbey had to sing some spectacularly high notes and Audra can DEFINITELY do that.

She is raw emotion. On this particular song, I think she does a better job than Julie Andrews. Have not heard her sing anything from SOM.

Three strong choices. Although wasn't Laura one of the people that complained on twitter about Carrie being chosen as Maria?

How wonderful that all of these very experienced stage personnel want to be on stage with CARRIE UNDERWOOD. This just illustrates how well Carrie's reputation is known and respected throughout the music industry. Am I the only one who is pleased that all the other so called country darlings continue to be ignored outside their own cliché.

Also, and I am going out on a fine limb here, I am not the biggest fan of casting outside of context.
Meaning: choosing an african american to play a nun in Austria is a stretch, much like an asian prince, a black princess, a white father, a black fairy Godmother, did not add anything to the story of Cinerella when it was done for television a decade or so ago.

I just think it is distracting.
I think if we are honestly unbiased and nonracist when it comes to color than we should be able to accept an all white cast to tell the story of Austria in the 1930's.

We are not ever again going to see white men playing the roles of black slaves. So I think it is fair to "type cast" when it makes sense to the story.

Wow!! Fantastic cast! I've heard Audra many times, and think she has a beautiful voice! She looks sweet, maybe she can give Carrie some tips! (smiley)

AUDRA MCDONALD IS MY LIFE!! The woman is amazing! This news has made me more excited for this production than any other news since Carrie was originally announced, haha. I'm flipping out, guys.

I love Laura Benanti as well. I've never actually seen her in anything but I have the Into the Woods 2002 revival recording and she's pretty fantastic as Cinderella.

    Ugh, so much good news.
