Carrie's #1 Singles That Could Have Been (Popdust)

Carrie Underwood’s career is remarkable. Coming off one of the best seasons of “American Idol” ever, she began a trail of no. 1 country singles almost unmatched by anyone in the history of country music—leading with her syrupy coronation anthem “Inside Your Heaven.” She followed that up with a faith prayer, a nostalgic interlude, a boy-bashing anthem and an uptempo inspirational track (all songs from her blockbuster Some Hearts album) that set the tone for her impressive eight-year excursion.
While Carrie has done a pretty terrific job of picking singles to promote to radio, there are several gems from each of her four platinum-selling albums that could have been smash hits. I am here to break down each album and highlight a couple songs that should have been promoted to radio and would have hit the top of the charts.

I said this before somewhere but can't find it. I agree with every choice except for QUITTER. I definitely would not have wanted it to be a single. Every other song on the list would have been super!!!!!!

Quitter is one of my favorite songs; so as you can see, I agree with Jason. Good choices.

Another upbeat song I like is "Crazy Dreams".

I would have added "Songs Like This" rather than "Quitter"

I love SLT also. So many great Carrie songs could have, should have been singles.

All of Carrie's albums are full of songs that would have made great singles. Here's my pick of songs that I would have liked to have been released from each album:

    Some Hearts

    • Some Hearts

    • Lessons Learned

    • Starts With Goodbye

    Carnival Ride

    • Flat On the Floor

    • Get Out of This Town

    • I Know You Won't

    Play On

    • Someday When I Stop Loving You

    • What Can I Say (feat. Sons of Sylvia)

    Blown Away

    • Good In Goodbye

    • Cupid's Got a Shotgun

    • Wine After Whiskey

Thanks for your article, Jason. You made a lot of great choices.

I've always felt that this topic should be approached from another angle...Look at Carrie's singles and ask yourself which ones the majority of fans could have probably done without (not just you personally).

Obviously MS will rule that list. I'd hope SYA would feature highly on that too. Are there any others, really? Certainly not from the BA era. I'd reckon CC/TH/UI all have some degree of support (UI is debatable, but GDI, I love that song).

No one sane can pick any of JTTW/BHC/Wasted/SS/AAG/JAD. And I think LN and ITYS are also pretty solid picks for singles off CR. DFTRM is amazingly well-written, though not the ideal radio single, I guess.

My point is, there's really only some 2-3 singles that I feel this fanbase would have rather not seen released. That makes releasing these other faves so much harder x)

Actually it's very difficult to tell because it's about timing and luck as well, to go number one.
