Billboard: Carrie Underwood Performs Emotional Tribute to Tornado Victims

Carrie Underwood Performs Emotional Tribute to Tornado Victims at CMT Music Awards | Billboard

The CMT Music Awards are often noted for their irreverence, and sometimes for the shock value of pairing country performers with acts from outside the format. While this years' telecast had plenty of those moments this year -- with appearances from Nelly and Lenny Kravitz, there was also a great deal of emotion on the show.
Taking to the stage late in the program, Big Machine's Rascal Flatts brought up the recent devastation due to the tornados in Oklahoma. Member Joe Don Rooney introduced his fellow Okie, Carrie Underwood, to the stage. The Arista superstar responded with the emotional musical centerpiece of the night with a performance of her current single "See You Again."
Performing in front of a video backdrop of the devastation from the recent tornados, Underwood delivered what might have been one of her greatest live performances yet. The Grand Ole Opry star performed while being backed by a choir from Nashville's Christ Church. The song was dedicated in memory of those who lost their lives in the deadly tornados that swept through Moore on May 20.
Underwood made news recently by donating $1 million of the proceeds from her recent "Blown Away" tour to the American Red Cross to help aid victims of the tornados.
With a long history of country music performers, Underwood's fellow Okies have also stepped in to help with aid efforts. Blake Shelton, Reba McEntire, and Vince Gill all united their talents last Wednesday (May 29) for the "Healing In The Heartland" concert in Oklahoma City which also included performances from Luke Bryan, Darius Rucker, and Rascal Flatts -- with other artists also planning as-yet-to-be-announced benefits.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Billboard wrote such a nice piece - "The Arista superstar responded with the emotional musical centerpiece of the night with a performance of her current single "See You Again."
Performing in front of a video backdrop of the devastation from the recent tornados, Underwood delivered what might have been one of her greatest live performances yet."

Those are some amazingly supportive words coming from anyone - let alone Billboard.
BTW - I know we have been disappointed about the lack of support for Carrie in awards the last few years but seeing how mature and caring Carrie is for others - these kinds of write ups and acknowledgement have to trump getting awards. THIS is who Carrie is - a woman (not an adult-child) who loves to have fun, give back and promote God and she is someone who is respected by her peers - you could see that last night in the response from the crowd - heck Kevin Bacon was excited to see Carrie on the red carpet!

Well said! That is how I feel. They can steal her awards and snub her at CMAS and ACMS--- but they will never dim her star.
