American Idol's Paul Jolley: Will He Be a Taylor Swift or a Carrie Underwood?

American Idol's Paul Jolley: Will He Be a Taylor Swift or a Carrie Underwood? | Cambio
When one door closes, another door opens.

After being eliminated tonight on American Idol, Paul Jolley managed to stay true to his name. He shared his reaction, his hopes for his career and even threatened to pull a Taylor Swift!

It has been one crazy journey for Paul. "I'm so thankful for this experience, from the beginning to now," he told us. "I don't regret anything I've done. I wouldn't take anything back."

Keith Urban was the first judge to approach Paul after the results, "That meant a lot to me because ever since a little kid, he's always been my idol." And Mariah Carey shared words of wisdom. "She was just telling me don't give up, just keep pushing forward and she would love for me to do pop. I love her dearly."

The judges have been suggesting more of the pop and dance genre for Paul, but he knows what he wants. "To each, his own," said the Tennessee native. "Ultimately as an artist, I know what I want to do and showcase. Country was where I was born and raised. I grew up on this music."

Paul hope to follow in the footsteps of one of his idols, who happened to get her start on Idol too. "Through this whole experience I've said Carrie Underwood," he told us. "She started on American Idol, she's country pop," he said, "I want to be that. The male version of it."

The finalist's mentor, Jimmy Iovine, said that Paul made a mistake with his song choice, "I respect his opinion one-hundred percent," Paul said. "I've always looked up to Jimmy."

But that doesn't mean he's looking back. "I still stand by and behind everything that I've done to this point. I might have made a bad decision once or twice, but I don't regret it. It's a stepping stone."

For Paul, it is all about the lyrics, "I chose 'Alone' because till now, I've always gotten by on my own. But now I have my fans, my troopers beside me."

While his fans might have been surprised that he was eliminated tonight, Paul was not. "I woke up this morning and had my moment with God," he told us. "And realized I'm going home today. I knew it in my heart one-hundred percent. In the end God has the bigger plan."

Paul is thankful for the whole Idol experience, but there is one thing he'll miss the most. "I'm going to miss all the other contestants," he said. "We've all become such a close family. They better keep in touch with me because I'm emotionally attached now."

And, just hypothetically, if they don't? "I'll do that whole Taylor Swift thing," he joked. "Don't think I won't!"

That puts him right in the Miranda / Leanne Rimes camp.

Paul was on the Tonight show last night (not as the main singer) and did a nice job performing a few lines from Blown Away!

He shouldn't want to be a version of someone else. He should simply want to be himself. That's how artists succeed - they are themselves, not trying to be someone else.

Part of Paul's problem is that Paul isn't as good as Paul thinks that he is.

Paul needs to do what he can just so he'll never have any regrets that he didn't try hard enough - especially if he has no family attachments to hold him back. That was sure nice of Keith and Mariah to speak to him afterwards - had to mean a lot. I've been so impressed with both of them since they've been judges - both are so different than I thought they were. Keith is more outgoing and Mariah seems more caring - really like them both!! I wish him lots of luck!!

HE is the one who said "I have to remember to sing like I'm still a nobody."

I guess that won't be that hard afterall.

That is why his performances are never natural or genuine. He thinks about how he wants to sound like and look like, in turn, making the performance cheesy.

He won't be that easily forgotten. He is going on tour with them all! I liked him but truly did not think he would last too long on the show. Strange things going on this year. Some 'great' singers went home and some less than are still there. Good Luck to my favorites.

You really don't think that will happen do you? So many others have come before him & the same type of statements were made, only for them to fade into the either.
