    Yahoo Music: Grammy Predictions

    Grammy Predictions: The Country Field

    By Paul Grein

Women are likely to dominate the awards in the country field. Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift all have a good chance of going home with Grammys this year.

    Best Country Song

The nominees: Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” (written by Josh Kear & Chris Tompkins),Ronnie Dunn’s “Cost Of Livin’” (which he co-wrote with Phillip Coleman), Eli Young Band’s“Even If It Breaks Your Heart” (written by Will Hoge & Eric Paslay), Alan Jackson’s “So You Don’t Have To Love Me Anymore” (written by Jay Knowles & Adam Wright), Eric Church’s“Springsteen” (which he co-wrote with Jeff Hyde & Ryan Tyndell).

The discussion: “Springsteen,” “Blown Away” and “Even If It Breaks Your Heart” were all million-sellers. “Springsteen” and “Even If Breaks Your Heart” are the only two finalists here that were nominated for Song of the Year at the CMA Awards.

Kear and Tompkins, the writers of “Blown Away,” won in this category for writing Underwood’s 2007 smash “Before He Cheats.” Kear also won for co-writing Lady Antebellum’s 2010 smash “Need You Now.”Pop and rock enthusiasts are allowed to vote in the country field, which will probably boost the chances for “Springsteen.”

    The pick: “Springsteen.”

    Best Country Solo Performance

The nominees: Dierks Bentley’s “Home,” Eric Church’s “Springsteen,” Ronnie Dunn’s “Cost Of Livin’,” Hunter Hayes’ “Wanted,” Blake Shelton’s “Over,” Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away.”

The discussion: “Wanted,” “Springsteen” and “Blown Away” were all million-sellers. Church, Shelton and Underwood were nominated for Male or Female Vocalist of the Year at the CMAs. Underwood has won five Grammys. Dunn won two as half of Brooks & Dunn.

With five men and one woman in the running, the woman has the edge. Whenever someone stands out, it boosts their chances. This would be the second year in a row that a woman has won in this category. Taylor Swift won last year for “Mean.” (Prior to last year, male and female vocalists competed in separate categories.)

    The pick: Carrie Underwood.

I agree, predictions don't matter, but it's nice they are at least talking about Carrie. I don't believe any of the predictions, but I find it refreshing that they are at least putting Carrie in the running

I hope they're right about Country Solo Performance!

I do wish they had pointed out that BA was not yet eligible to be nominated for SOTY at the CMA's, so it's not like it was snubbed and therefore has less of a chance at the Grammy SOTY.

That's a very interesting argument - that the men will split the vote and allow Carrie to get the win that she greatly deserves. I hope they are right about this!

I hope tbey are right so bad-- but lots of people predicted carrie to win female vocalist at cmas and she lost.... So i am scared to get my hopes up. But if ever carrie deserved to win an award--- it is for BA.

For the way she interpreted, added to the production and sang this song - she definitely deserves the win!

Interesting that when you poll people "outside" country, they seem to gravitate towards Carrie.
    Not at all surprising.
Most in the industry ouside of coutry think that Carrie is at the top of her industry.
Its the people within country that stand in her way.

exactly. It is Nashville that is against Carrie, while the rest of the world loves her. Most people I know still don't know who Miranda is, though people who follow country do and like her. But most still see Carrie as the face of country. I wish she were not treated so terribly by the so-called "country music family." hmmph

Hiphop artists are nicer to Carrie then some of the country music snots.

Yes-- whether she wins or loses-- this song deserves the Win, and no one can really argue that point that is being honest. Her vocals are phenominal, and her emotion and interpretive skills are just stellar.

It really is her best single since BHC.

Anyone on this site can make a prediction and it would mean as much as Yahoo's or any other media site.
