2013 Grammy nomination predictions: Best Country Song

2012 has been a huge year for Country music, as evidenced by some of the genre's best songs being released. Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and the Eli Young Band came out with guns ablazin' by cutting incredible songs that tell unforgettable stories. From Underwood's "Blown Away" to Young's "Even If It Breaks Your Heart," the "Best Country Song" category should prove to be a tight race for the upcoming 55th Annual Grammy Awards.

On Wednesday, December 5, the long list of nominees will be announced, along with the help from co-hosts Taylor Swift and LL Cool J, at the Grammy Nomination Concert, set to go live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena. For the first time in the academy's history, the nominations will be announced outside of Los Angeles. Among those, Country music will be heavily represented with performances from Luke Bryan, The Band Perry and Hunter Hayes, just to name a few.

As far as the possible contenders in "Best Country Song" are concerned, there are plenty to choose from. To begin with, Underwood released what is considered her best song to-date. "Blown Away," which was penned by Chris Tompkins and Josh Kear ("Before He Cheats") marks a stark departure from her previous boy-bashing and inspirational releases. It features a young girl caught in a deadly tornado who must make the choice between saving her abusive alcoholic father or letting him be swept away. As the listener, you easily get snatched up in the monstrous pop-leaning production and powerful vocal delivery which solidifies Underwood's place among the best in the business. A snub in this category would be devastating.

Jason, is devastating the right word? I got to the last sentence and had to think. Is is really devistating to Carrie? Or is it a snub? Or is it bad thing for the industry?

Of that group, I'd be disappointed if Pontoon was nominated. It's a novelty song and there are way too many Great songs for that to be considered Country Song of the Year. I think "Wanted" by Hunter Hayes is going to get a nomination.
