2013 Grammy nomination predictions: Best Country Solo Performance

Without a doubt, the past year has given us some of the best Country music in recent years. With Carrie Underwood hitting her stride with breathtakingly chilling new music ("Blown Away," "Two Black Cadillacs") and Eric Church having a remarkable breakthrough year with his album Chief, the genre is seeing a resurgence in artistry. This then begs the question which of this year's best recordings will nab nods at the upcoming Grammy Nominations Concert. Set to go live this Wednesday, December 5, the three-hour event will feature performances from Country's biggest stars, including Luke Bryan, and will be co-hosted by Taylor Swift and LL Cool J.

Miranda Lambert's "Over You," a passionate song about husband Blake Shelton's brother, is one of the year's most enduring tunes and a definite lock in the "Best Country Solo Performance" category. The simplistic lyrics are coated with an emotional delivery that is almost unmatched by any of the other possible contenders. Additionally, the song achieved chart-topping success when it reached the summit of Billboard's Hot Country Songs tally the week of May 19, 2012. The track is off the singer's gold Four the Record album, which is also predicted to snag a nomination in the "Best Country Album" division.

However, Underwood's No. 1 smash hit "Blown Away," which spent two weeks at the top on Mediabase / Country Aircheck, might give Lambert some stiff competition. Billboard magazine praised the tornado-like track as being an "instant classic," as a result from Underwood's "bold performance." The song has the Oklahoma singer digging her heels deep into grittier territory and making a huge splash with far more adventurous material that has not gone unnoticed by the industry. The windy track is off the singer's award-winning platinum album by the same name, which should also score a nod, as well.
