The Boot: Carrie Underwood 'Blown Away' Single Tops the Charts

    Carrie Underwood
is queen of the country charts this week as her latest single, "Blown Away," moves into the top spot on both the
    Billboard
    and Mediabase/
    Country Aircheck
survey. The title track from her already-chart-topping album becomes the superstar's 13th No. 1
    Billboard
single, which includes her 2011 duet with Brad Paisley, "Remind Me."

Carrie's move into the top spot on both charts means
    Jason Aldean
's "Take a Little Ride" begins its descent from the No. 1 position.
    Dustin Lynch
remains at No. 2 with "Cowboys and Angels" according to Mediabase, and he's at No. 3 with that hit on the
    Billboard
    countdown.
    Lee Brice
is closing in on another No. 1 hit, with "Hard to Love" at
    Billboard
's No. 2 spot. He's currently No. 4 on the Mediabase chart. The strongest mover within the Top 10 on both charts is
    Luke Bryan
    's "Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye."

    Little Big Town
continues to pick up speed with "Tornado," moving for 44 to 37 on the Mediabase chart and 41 to 32 on Billboard in just three weeks. Newcomer
    Florida Georgia Line
("Cruise"), meanwhile, inches closer to scoring their first Top 10 hit.

    Carrie Underwood, whose
    Blown Away
album has topped charts in the US and Canada, and reached Australia's Top 5, continues the Blown Away tour. She'll be at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Tuesday (Oct. 16) and has two more shows in California this week. Keep track of her tour dates
    here

The fact that they included Billboard makes me happy...and proves that the industry has been blindsided by the new rules. When Billboard posts the new bogus chart this week, the headlines should be interesting... BACKLASH PLEASE

Very interesting them calling BA her 13th Billboard # 1.
Still wondering what the chart highlights are going to look like this afternoon.

Windmills from MJ's says it will still count as her 13th since the Hot Country Songs used to be based on airplay.

What is still confusing to me, however, is the fact that The Boot has the following chart to the right of the article I posted:

Hopefully they will see their error and replace this chart with the CORRECT chart!

Billboard won't be ignored - it's industry standing is too firmly entrenched. But there are two Billboard Country song charts - the Airplay chart and the "Hot" chart - the former reflects the old methodology (genre specific) and the latter the new methodology (containing both digital data and - more controversially - crossover airplay on Pop stations). Both will be quoted. But a number one's a number one! You can bet record companies will be happy to say they have a number one, regardless of which chart it occurred on.

I suspect Country radio will largely use the airplay charts (Mediabase or Billboard), since they obviously have a stake in focusing on their own format. That data is not going to disappear, simply because the "Hot" chart has been changed. The main problem about the misleading focus on Pop in the "Hot" chart is that general entertainment writers may tend to quote the "Hot" chart - it's likely to get primary coverage outside the industry, partly because those writers tend to be Pop-focused anyway, and partly because it's likely to appear to outsiders as the more prestigious "main" chart

Blown Away is one of my favorite Carrie songs. Love love love it. I would have been so disappointed had it not reached #1.

Basically the BB airplay chart is for the insiders, the hot country songs is for the PR and public, newspapers, magazines and websites will continue to publish the hot country songs chart probably

By the new standard, BA still got recognized by BB for a #1 song via the airplay designation. That's great. That was the way it was before and the way it is now. So, from that standpoint, nothing has changed. Her records at BB are intact and Carrie can expect to see more airplay #1's in the future. Radio will surely use the airplay chart as it's source for recognizing a songs status. The press world is apparently also recognizing the new airplay chart.

So, it really brings us to the value and role of the newly added chart. Without a doubt, it favors an artist like TS. We will need to let it run it's course for a while to find out how it will be received and valued. It offers another way to get a #1 song but based on very different criteria. Some may see value and others may not. Radio, certainly, is not going to value it. It could actually hurt TS if she gets too much exposure from this chart. I think the TS team knows this and it may be a concern for them. People will quickly shake their heads when a song is #1 but it has never been released to radio or even played on radio. But it does measure something and to some that measure may have value. Other artists will start to look at how to benefit so we will see changes by some artists. Right now, after reading all the concern over the past week, I'm waiting to see what happens. It does not appear that Carrie has been hurt and, who knows, down the road, Carrie may also benefit.
