idk what the elgibility period is for the AMA's and ACA's but BA the single was released as a single in July so it might quality if not we still have good girl, and remind me that has a chance in being nominated for a couple of ACA's awards. and for AMA's not going to push it
I <3 WAW... But I prefer a happy song now that would make people smile, and something that would contrast BA and GG... so I agree with Kevin... DYTAM!
I really think DYTAM and TBC will most likely be singles... the other one... I'm not sure... it could be CGAS, OWT, LLA, GIG or WAW...
OWT is no doubt going to be a summer single. It will blow up on radio.
I completely agree. I think DYTAM is the perfect next single to follow GG and BA.
Yes! DYTAM! I completely agree with it.
There are just too many songs on this album that could be awesome singles. And I know Im gonna be upset either way way because some good song or two is not gonna make it lol
We have (after BA) 3 singles at most lol and there are a lot of single choices
TBC
WAW
DYTAM
GIG
those are the strongest contenders but then there is
CGAS
LLA
I really don't see both GIG and WAW being released. we're gonna have majority uptempo or mid tempo singles imo.
here are my two options after BA:
DYTAM, OWT, TBC, WAW, and maybe cupid if they really feel like going crazy.
or
Cupid, OWT, TBC, WAW, DYTAM.
you can also put in GIG in place of WAW.
all opinion tho, who know what is really gonna happen haha
Becca
^yeah I think we all may be surprised.
We know TBC is pretty much a definite, but most likely will not be next. And Carrie seems to really like singing DYTAM.
Honestly, I dont think we will be hearing WAW or GIG on radio. I hate that idea, but idk.
I wonder why so many people seem to think that GIG has such a good chance of being a single? It's definitely possible, but so many people are so sure of it that it makes me wonder if they have some inside info that I don't. lol. I always saw GIG as a great album track - it kind of reminds me of the great album tracks from SH.
I want TBC (and it looks like we'll get it eventually), but not next, because then it'd be competing with BA at the CMAs next year, and I don't want either song overshadowed.
My ideal scenario would be:
3) Do You Think About Me -A light and refreshing change from the previous two darker songs; plus, Carrie pretty much never releases her happy midtempo songs as singles, so it'd be nice to show off this side of her.
4) Two Black Cadillacs - The sinister vibe of this one would work really well in the cold winter months at the beginning of next year. It's also probably Carrie's best co-write ever.
5) One Way Ticket, Leave Love Alone, or Cupid's Got a Shotgun - I have a feeling only one of these will be released, unfortunately. I don't think LLA has much of a shot, but I'd love it to get a release. I think Cupid or OWT are most likely, though, and I'd be good with either.
6) Wine After Whiskey - They need six singles this era! Five is just not enough. I highly doubt this song will see the light of day, but IMO that would be a huge mistake. This track is perfection. Another one of Carrie's best co-writes ever.
For what it's worth, there may be a clue that "Do You Think About Me?"is being kept under consideration as a possible radio single, in the fact that there are two versions of the lyric.
On the album version, Carrie actually sings:
You said 'we don't have to have said 'I will'
That is also what Hillary sang, at the Songwriters event. However, in the printed album notes, this is changed to:
You said 'we don't have to'; I said 'I will'
The sung version seems to imply more directly a reference to wedding vows, while the printed version rather softens that. Kevin Coyne finds the indifference to a loss of innocence implied in the song "refreshing" - but it doesn't follow that all listeners would. Some radio stations can be wary of playing songs that might offend socially conservative audiences, or appear to run counter to the policies voted by some local school boards (and one of the less happy aspects of this is that there can be a double standard in what they'll play, when it comes to male and female Mainstream singers). I think it's possible that the second lyric in the printed notes is a more muted reserve version.
But however that may be, the song itself would be a good choice. It makes a contrast from the more innovative and darker songs, and has an infectious jingly musical line, and a lyric that many people could relate to, with a mixture of nostalgia and realization that you can't actually recapture the past. Although a much lighter song, the theme has similarities with WAW, for example in the metaphor of other boys singing the same tune, but always out of key. I think it has both youth appeal, and a sense of looking back to a happy memory, as in Coyne's comparison with Matraca's lost youth classic "Strawberry Wine". I also think this would be a good song for new Carrie fans, including international ones.
Does anyone think SYA has a chance??
I want DYTAM to be the next single so badly... It would be such a nice change of pace for Carrie-- light, sweet, and fun. She has done so many rocking songs and ballads. It is time for something different.
I'm a bit out of my depth here, as I don't relate to this type of music at all - but I'd question whether it would be seen as likely material for Country radio (Carrie's single format)?
Although there's been some discussion, here and elsewhere, that the first three songs on the album don't sound Country, because of their innovative production styles - I disagree, because many of the influences and techniques they incorporate have long been accepted in Alternative Country - and it's noticeable that several of the Country reviewers have been keener on GG and BA than some of the comments from their readers, and that radio seems to be taking up both songs enthusiastically.
But I'd question whether that would also apply to SYA. It's power delivery and the persistent oo-oo male choruses sound very Pop to me, and notwithstanding a token smidgeon of steel guitar, I find this the least Country song on the album. Carrie wrote it for the Narnia movie, where the Country audience, as such, wouldn't be particularly a relevant consideration. She probably thought its inspirational lyric made it too good to waste - but I'd be surprised if she sent it to Country radio.
If anything, it reminds me, musically, of the Diane Warren parts of Some Hearts. and perhaps more suitable for the AC format (but, as I say, I don't feel very comfortable with assessing this style)
I adore See You Again, but I do agree that it is pretty pop sounding. I wouldn't mind it as a single personally-- but I am not sure if country radio would go for it?
maybe SYA would be like some heart (song) be released as a single just not to country radio, christian radio would be good.
Hmm, I have always heard it as "you said 'we don't have to'; I said 'I will'". Even in Carrie's live versions I've always heard it that way. I'll have to re-listen to Hillary's version from the Songwriters event.
One thing that makes me think they are considering DYTAM as a single also is that when Carrie was in the UK doing a radio interview, they played BA and I think TBC and asked Carrie what other album track she'd like to play, and she chose DYTAM because she wanted people to know that the album wasn't all dark. I thought it was very telling that she chose DYTAM to showcase the lighter side of the album. Perhaps she'll choose to do the same for US radio?
Edit: I just listened to Hillary's DYTAM version again, and I'm still hearing "you said 'we don't have to'; I said 'I will'".
Nice analysis! i haven't noticed the "have to have said 'I will'" part... need to take another listen... though that line always confused me to what the actual lyrics is...
I know Carrie love singing this and she didn't even hesitated in singing the second part of DYTAM during the CMA songwriters event which is telling how Carrie really loves singing this song...
She also closes her eyes when singing this song... usually i interpret this as "feeling" the song like how she sings TH...
and i agree with Faraway, it has a nostalgic feel
EDIT: I'm hearing "You said 'we don't have to'; I said 'I will'" from the album version
