There are absolute moments of brilliance in the production.
And I have never seen Carrie more appropriate in the role she is playing.
That was real actting going on there folks.
Really spot on and impressive for a young lady that has had to learn as she goes and was so unsure of her abilities at first.

I think both JTTW and BHC were tremendously risky.
I have said many times that when I heard the first single by Carrie Underwood was going to have "Jesus.." in the title, I was sure we were sunk. Mainstream america was never going to get behind that. But she was so convincing and sincere it just flew! And then BHC!! Boy, now I thought for sure she lost all sense. And that flew even higher.
    Those were risky moves!!!!
    And it paid off bigtime.
And now she is doing it again. Finally! And I pray it pays off again.
I agree, I also think single choices like Last Name, Just a Dream, Cowboy Casanova, and even Temporary Home were rather risky for radio. And if anyone thinks IKYW isn't challenging, I'm not sure what to say to them. LOL

that reviewer may not know IKYW, because it wasn't a radio song, although its a legend in the Carrie concert world.

I was thrilled to read this review! May many more finally come her way - Taste of Country called the video the video of the year then put a question by decade?. So, I agree this might be a real turning point for Carrie career wise in that people take her a little more seriously.

I find it interesting that the production, the thing that makes the song brilliant to some people, is the exact thing that other reviewers didn't like. That is kind of the definition of taking an armistice risk.

I think Carrie has acquired an AI "engineered celebrity" background and "small town sweet girl" personal image that have made some people expect her to be bland, forgettable and unchallenging.- and that expectation has too often been trotted out as routine assumption in ten thousand snap judgments, from serious reviewers, through award voters, to casual music blog comments. In fact, too often, the critics have been the ones who won't take risks, and won't look beyond their preconceptions, and seriously consider what they're listening to.

It's a good to see a convert though - and I hope he'll be joined by many more
Either you misread the review or I'm misreading what you just said.

He said her previous songs were NOT bland and forgettable. And he said they weren't big risk songs too.
