    Best Songs of the 2000s

    'I Told You So'

    Carrie Underwood / Randy Travis

The 2005 winner of 'American Idol' is an obvious singer to include on our list of the Best Songs of the 2000s. After scoring major hits with ‘Jesus, Take the Wheel’ and ‘Before He Cheats,’ Carrie Underwood re-recorded this Randy Travis penned classic from 1988 for her 2007 album ‘Carnival Ride.’ Powered by their appearance together on 'Idol, ‘I Told You So’ went on to win a Grammy for Country Collaboration of the Year.

Surprised this was chosen over BHC or JTTW but really any Carrie song is pure amazing.

Love that I told you so and Love Story are listed. Don't see how I Hope You Dance is number 1 though.

Ok Im sorry but thats a bad list. I love I told you so but Jesus take the wheel and BHC own it. not to mention that Love Story is as cheesy as you get.

Its all opinions obviously, but I can see how it would be in the top ten and even number one. Would it be on my top ten list? probably not, but it was a huge song and I still hear it all the time on both country and pop radio.

    I agree!!!

"Jesus Take The Wheel" and "Before He Cheats" WILL NEVER DIE!!! They will STAY FOREVER!!! Two songs with TWO OPPOSED IDEAS - "The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still RETAIN THE ABILITY TO "FUNCTION SUPERBLY" ...... That is what Carrie Underwood is all about. That is what Carrie is ABLE TO DO!!! She seeks to be HIGHLY IDEALISTIC and HIGHLY PROFITABLE - "BOTH, AT THE SAME TIME".

Knew it was a terrible list when I saw "Love Story", really? I can name SO many songs better than that. However, I am glad to see Carrie getting recognized, but I would have gone with JTTW

That list is ridiculous - I mean they are good songs but a whole decade of songs to choose from and that's what they come up with? Terrible

Interesting that "I Hope You Dance" (which only just qualified at the very beginning of the 2000s) should be named as their top song of the decade. On the Lee Ann Womack version, the backing vocals were sung by Sons of the Desert (the band that had the original version of "Goodbye Earl"). It was Lee Ann's biggest hit.

Here's Carrie's early version of the same song:

(That cuts off before the end, unfortunately, but there are a couple of other versions on YouTube)
