Underwood finally cuts loose at booze-free casino

But the appearance that maybe mattered most was performing a duet with Aerosmith's Steven Tyler on the televised Academy of Country Music Awards in April. Mentioning that duet Saturday clearly inspired her version of "Undo It," a song they did together. She also channeled her inner Tyler on "Last Name," her barnburner about getting drunk and waking up the next morning with a ring on her finger and not knowing her last name. Underwood proved on a sober Saturday night that, even at a booze-free casino, she's better when she plays it a little wild and loose.

He basically called her boring and overhyped until she sang rock cover songs. That is not exactly a glowing review of a country singer lol...

THe guy is a moron. I was at the concert and she sounded great. Also, the writer is dead wrong about the loudest cheer. By far the loudest cheer came from JTTW/HGTA but by reading his article it sounds like he has a built in bias for those types of songs. I suspect he just isn't much of a country fan.

He appears to be a rock fan not a country fan. A good review in my eyes. His reference to the hot singers in country was wrong and his reference to do-me-wrong songs is a tip off.

I like the reveiw.... I can remember a time when a critic like this would totaly dismiss Carrie and not even give her a chance... Now he is in the process of taking a second look and what he sees is someone that is becoming relevant even to non-believers.... Carrie is breaking down the bias attitudes of even the most liberal of rock critics and whether they know it or not in the future when they reveiw her the label wont matter only the talent..... Dont get me wrong some will never come around but because people have ears soon it will become their reveiws that become irrelevant...LOL

Sounds like the typical writer who had their mind made up about what they were going to write before they even got there, that is why good/indifferent or bad nothing what any reviewer has to say matters.

Fans are or are not going to go see someone in concert, buy their album, etc...

LOL, I agree with you! He pretty much is saying Carrie is not country and he only liked her "ROCkED out" (Carrie is one of those few artist that can truly emote her song... My God, take HGTA...stupid critic)

"Prior to the that four-song flourish, Underwood, 28, seemed like she didn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Jennifer Nettles, Lambert and Martina McBride, the top female singers on the Nashville charts these days"

Did none of you catched this, he obviously doesn't know diddly squat about country music...lol, when was the last time Martina was relevent. What an insult!

The review is cr*p and not even closely resembling what happened at the show last night. It was, by far, the most energetic "casino" (albeit outdoors) crowd and they were LOVING her. She was a bit hoarse, for sure, and definitely out of breath (which she admitted to). And yes, the crowd loved the rock songs and encore. Everthing else he says is ridiculous.

Anyone who says Carrie is not vocally up there with Jennifer & Martina but says Miranda is vocally better than Carrie has no credibility when it comes to talent, IMO.

    Enough said.

ZMAN he was just pissed off because he couldnt buy a beer
Ive learned that critics like this use their reveiws to bolster there pre-concieved biases... Someone like this worships himself so unless he percieves HGTA is about him he will ignore it.... LOL

This reviewer has NEVER given Carrie a fair review. He doesn't like and he never has.

I just chalk it up to sour grapes on his part. Its like he wouldn't or couldn't tell exactly what went on at the concert because then people would know that all his reviews are worthless and meaningless!

    ETA:
For the second consecutive year, it seemed as if Underwood were going to demonstrate that she, despite all her Grammys and awards from various country music organizations, is an overrated vocalist and entertainer.

After reading this one paragraph in his review you know that this review is complete nonsense. After all the praise Carrie has gotten from music vets -- from all genres of music -- praising her voice and praising Carrie as one of the finest vocalist currently in any music genre and her entertainer level, we're supposed to take what he has to say seriously???? Please give me a break!!!!!!

This review is all about the reviewer...what he likes and who he prefers or sees at the top of their game...His attitude towards Carrie is spelled out very clearly in the first few lines of his so called review. He likes (begrudgingly) Carrie when she sings songs out of her genre and then has the nerve to say that she doesn't deserve to be listed with the likes of Nettles, Lambert and McBride!!! He clearly can't stand 'perfection' and I'm assuming that's what he means when he keeps using the phrase, 'made for TV performance mode'. What a little sh@2t!!

You know what I didn't even read the reviews but it's very sad that these people who have no talent themselves feel they have to berate performers/

According to the reviews at our Official Fan Club, there were two HUGE STANDING OVATION of the SOLD OUT CROWD!!! The first one was after the Jesus Take The Wheel/ How Great Thou Art and then at the encore song, "Song Like This". The reviewer did not mention that because it will affect his READY MADE REVIEW. Oh well, just watch again the video of "Carrie and Vince Gill Performing 'How Great Thou Art' at ACM Girls' Night Out 2011" and WATCH THE "REACTION" OF ALL CARRIE'S "PEERS" IN THE AUDIENCE.

Jon Bream hates country music! I have never read a review by him about a country artist that he didn't slam, unless her name was Taylor Swift, and he loved her. I don't consider her country. I was at the concert, and everyone around me was loving Carrie, and on their feet for most of the show. Yeah, Carrie forgot a line in ITYS, but that made her seem more human. She even joked about it afterwards. She was really chatty between songs, and the audience was loving it. I was also glad to see that her whole band is still with her. I love her band! Jamie looked like she was freezing! I say BAH to Jon Bream and his nasty reviews. We, who were there, know better!
