Carrie Underwood happy to take it slow

She's one of American country music's hottest stars, yet Carrie Underwood is happy to take baby-steps towards conquering Australia.

The 2005 American Idol winner was all smiles on her first promotional visit, even after volcanic ash forced an unexpected overnight drive from Melbourne to Sydney.

Having sold 14 million albums in the US, the 28-year-old singer now hopes to make a big impression on the international stage.

She's reserved the scale of her ambition for a future tour but sights are set on a long and loving relationship with Australian music fans.

Starting with low-key showcases to media and fans, a bigger stage beckons at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium when Underwood will perform at Friday's Broncos match.

"I wanted to come to Australia and become a part of it and let everyone know I'd love to be part of it," she told AAP in Sydney.

"So far everybody's been really welcoming and sweet and whether I make it big here or not I would love to come back and spend some more time."

I was going to ask the same thing? Is this different than the media performance showcase she was supposed to do?

hopefully she gets to watch the game. rugby makes american football look weenie. they play without helmets and much less padding. another game she should catch is aussie rules football: no padding at all.

Broncos are one of the teams in the Australian Rugby League competition.

This is massive for Carrie as the Broncos are playing the St George Dragons who are leading the competion
so it will be a sell out with a crowd of about 52,000.

this isn't the Super Rugby tournament which is the top rugby club competition, so im pretty sure it wont be on American TV

australian tv, im pretty sure it will be on. Suncorp stadium is a pretty big stadium, some international matches are played there.

League is actually a lot more similar to american football...

The game is shown live on east Coast TV but they don't show the pre game entertainment.

I think it pretty safe to say someone will put it up on Youtube.

Sometimes, Carrie is not sure about her own "STAR POWER".

Thanks for the article. First time I've read an article calling Carrie a "former beauty queen".
