OFFSTAGE: How Brad Paisley Recruits Duet Partners

You would think that someone as powerful as Brad Paisley would have people to do everything for him. And maybe he does. But when it comes to asking other celebs to sing with him on an album, he does it just like a regular person. He emails. Like when he wanted Clint Eastwood to whistle on a song called "Eastwood" on his upcoming album, Paisley told Billboard magazine he just emailed his wife Dina Eastwood. "I sent Dina an email and asked if Clint whistled, and she wrote back, 'Yes! He's a great whistler. Do you want him to whistle on something?'" he said. It was that easy. However, his new duet with Carrie Underwood on "Remind Me" started with a phone call. Paisley called her as he was writing the song. "I said, 'I promise it will be great, or we won't do it,'" Paisley said. He also calls Underwood a best friend and said they recorded the sad, sad, sad ballad of a love that's become "good, not great" at the guest house near Paisley's home.

Brad has a wonderful way of leaching out the meloncholy and tragic juxtoposition from many stories that feel simple on the surface.
Taping into a love that was once passionate and is now just "familiar" may have those same tones of sadness and meloncholy.
    Can't wait.
"Letter to Me" is among, what I consider to be, the great country songs writen today. And Whisky Lullaby is about the most heart wrenching songs I have ever heard.
If Brad says "it's great, or we won't do it", I believe him.
Songs like "On Line" "Alchol" "Celebrity" "You Are the World" all have a humanity to them that are first humorus but then alittle sad beneath the suface. It is one of his best traits that he can tap into our more personal thoughts the way he can.
I know some find his songs silly or superficial. But I assure you, anyone who can write a song like "Then" has some deep feeling in them.
So I am real excited about this one.
And it does mean alot to me that he would consider Carrie a "Best Friend". He is the kind of friend anyone would love to have.

he's hilarious tho so he may just love including some of his humor in his music, which i love. but yes, he is BRILLIANT at tapping into those emotions. Letter To Me is amazing.

Aww, that is the sweetest thing!! I really admire that Brad & Carrie are able to have such a strong friendship in this crazy business. I'm sure it's tough to find many people that will be loyal, let alone earn your trust enough to be considered a best friend.
    Brad & Carrie forever. <3

Well, I thought I might just buy Remind Me, but I guess I'll just buy the whole album! I do like TICM and OA pretty well and Brad always has a couple good ballads. I love his ballads best.
"Thank you for that ‘Captain Obvious’ sense of humor because you know what, we not only hit the high notes, you forgot to mention we generally hit the ‘right’ notes as well."
-Kelly Clarkson to Scott Borchetta about American Idol artists
    Thanks so much Danielle!

Here are a couple of things from the Billboard article that don't think have not been posted before.

First here is what Brad said about Carrie:

    "REMIND ME" (FEATURING CARRIE UNDERWOOD)
Part of the history of country music is the history of George Jones & Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn & Conway Twitty - the momentous duets. Getting to know Carrie, and becoming best friends essentially, I'll have a hard time collaborating with any other girl singer. We really have a magic that I think is apparent when we host the Country Music Assn Awards. It was a thrill to again collaborate with who I think is the greatest singer that we have - as well as one of the greatest that we've ever had.
And here is a picture of Carrie and Brad from the article:
