Reba Weighs in on ACM Noms(Carrie Mention)

(CBS) Superstar Reba McEntire, the host of the 45th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, appeared on "The Early Show" Tuesday with singer Blake Shelton to announce this year's nominees for the awards show.

McEntire also sat down with "Early Show" co-anchor Maggie Rodriguez to discuss her own nomination for Top Female Vocalist, her 14th appearance in the category.


McEntire, who's up against country heavyweights Miranda Lambert, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Lee Ann Womack, said she's honored to be nominated.

"It's a great thing," she said. "You get your name out in front of millions of people such as today as we're announcing the names. It's great publicity. People will be watching the night of the awards show while we're in Las Vegas, having a wonderful time. It's going to be a big night for country music, a big party."

Lady Antebellum, a trio group that's earned seven nominations -- the most for this year's awards, McEntire said, has captured audiences with great songs and music.

"They're fresh, they're new, and their music is totally different," she said. And it's very -- it's great to listen to and we love it. And they're very talented."

McEntire added the group also has a "cute gal."

That "cute gal" is Hillary Scott, the daughter of country singer Linda Davis, whom McEntire won a Grammy with for a duet called "Does He Love You?".

McEntire also commented Dave Matthews nomination with Kenny Chesney for "I'm Alive."

"We always do try to incorporate other genres into country music. We've been doing it for many years," she said. "There were tons of people who came into the awards shows back in early years, Olivia Newton John, John Denver. So we've always embraced people in to the country music. And I think it does help to broaden our audience."

As for the women in country music, McEntire said they'll be well represented at this year's awards.

Among the women nominated is Carrie Underwood, who received a nod again in the Entertainer of the Year category, which she won last year.

Rodriguez pointed out if Underwood would win again she would be the first female to win twice, but also consecutively.

"It would be wonderful," McEntire said. "...She's a wonderfully talented young lady. She can sing, she's doing acting now. So is Taylor swift, up for Entertainer of the Year."

But is the 12-time host ready for another go-round?

McEntire said she's ready.

But how does she keep it fresh and fun each year?

"It's always comes down to the writing," McEntire said. "It's like the songs are down to the writing. So that good writing comes in handy, very important. And I'll get out there and deliver the goods."

McEntire has sold over 55 million albums worldwide, has earned 34 No.1 singles. Her last 13 studio albums have all achieved platinum-plus status.

^ because they are both on the same label, Big Machine. lol So I think Reba is trying to be loyal to the label. lol

On a positive note, Reba has NEVER complimented Taylor's voice that I am aware of. lol So that is good.

...fingers crossed for Carrie. Carrie surely deserves many wins. Whatever happens, as I said in another post, please let the winner deserve the award. Credibility needs to return to these award shows. A winner shouldn't be based on popularity because talent is supposed to be the reason for the awards. Isn't it?

I hope the ACM would be either very sales-based or not sales-based at all, either way Carrie can win the vocalist awards and/or Album of the Year if it's sales-based.
By the way, did "Keep On Lovin' You" certify Platinum? The article claims the last 13 Reba McEntire albums are all Platinum-plus, I am pretty sure her "Duets" album was Platinum since it opened big with more than 300k, but despite being a #1 album on Billboard 200, I believe her latest album is not even close to Gold??
Don't get me wrong, I love Reba and particularly love the album "Keep On Lovin' You" and happy for all her success, just sayin'.

I was also bored by her incessant promotion of Taylor...but I'd like to think also that she's just so gracious of other artists. She seems so genuinely in awe of Carrie's talents, and for that I'll always like her
