Carrie Underwood Confronts the Unexpected
Carrie underwood confronts the unexpected
Dec. 8, 2008 — Carrie Underwood has just about wrapped up her 2008 Carnival Ride tour, and she's come to appreciate the spontaneous nature of the concert stage.
"It's really cool when something unexpected happens," she told The Tennessean. "You sing a song that you've sung a million times before, and generally I get the same reaction. But sometimes that crowd keeps clapping or they sing a lot louder than they have. People always sing loud on 'Before He Cheats', but when people sing really loud on some other smaller song, that is something that is always a very pleasant surprise, and you get something new out of it that night."
One of those moments made it into the media recently. Carrie got choked up while singing "Just A Dream," a song about a woman's heartbreak following the death of a soldier, during a concert in Arkansas without any obvious explanation. As it turns out, she'd had one of those unexpected moments with a member of the audience.
During that Arkansas show, someone held up a sign with a picture of a serviceman and a date with the message "Our Dream Ended."
"I actually didn't finish the song," she said. "I had to turn around and not cry. It's just stuff like that that makes you realize, 'Holy crap, this is life for them. It's not just a story; it's not just a song.' This is something that people really live through. It's a good thing to keep in mind."
Carrie and her opening act, Little Big Town, close the Carnival Ride Tour for the year on Sunday in Gainesville, Fla.
