I did a little Twitter search, and it seems that the issue isn't with Carrie herself, but rather an issue with one of the organizations involved with the Teachers Rock special. Some people on Twitter are questioning why Carrie and other celebs are participating.

The tweets that being directed to Carrie are simply asking for her to reconsider her participation in the program. They aren't nasty tweets from what I've seen.

I read up on this a bit also. The proceeds from this event will go to 3 non-profit organizations. One of them is Teach For America (TFA) and this is the "controversial" one. The issue mainly revolves around the methodology employed by TFA to improve the teaching in the classroom. More information can be found here:

Thanks for the clarification. I didn't understand what the big deal was - I work for a fairly big school district in CA and I know the teachers would probably not like the idea of parents controlling whether they lost their jobs or not. And of course there are a LOT of teachers who shouldn't have even picked this job as a profession, but there are also a LOT of teachers who love what they do and put a lot of time and love into their job!
I will watch this program because Carrie is on it. I probably wouldn't watch if she weren't on the show

From MY PERSPECTIVE, this program is similar to "Peace Corps" VOLUNTEER program of the US Federal Government for third world countries. They are sending AMERICAN TEACHERS who just graduated from universities for two years to help elementary schools in the third world countries. The only difference is that - "Teach For America" is sending the VOLUNTEER CORPS MEMBERS to elementary schools WITHIN THE UNITED STATES. The OTHER PERSPECTIVE is that - they are a "THREAT TO JOB SECURITY" - "the demise of the myth of job security" of the PERMANENT TEACHERS because more than fifty per cent of the volunteers EXTENDED their service for third year or more. And they will get a BONUS PAY VOUCHER from "Americorps" of the US Federal Government, after their VOLUNTEER service.

I'm so excited that Carrie's twitter followers keep going up! 700K in such a short time is VERY impressive. Tee, I noticed that you mentioned earlier that it is interesting how closely the Blown Away album sales are mirroring the number of twitter followers. That trend continues.
