Randy Travis Honored at Grand Ole Opry

Randy Travis Honored at Grand Ole Opry

    -

    Chris Hollo

Randy Travis was joined Tuesday night (Oct. 4) at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House by fellow country greats Carrie Underwood, John Anderson, Josh Turner and more as he celebrated 25 years in country music and as a member of the Grand Ole Opry.

Fittingly, the tribute coincides with the release of Randy's latest CD, 'Anniversary Celebration,' which features the North Carolina native reworking some of his most unforgettable hits backed by Carrie ('Is It Still Over?'), John ('Diggin' Up Bones') and Josh ('T.I.M.E'). All of those collaborations were spotlighted during the Opry performance, which also included Randy performing several of his most popular hits of the past 25 years.

Randy Travis was one of the handful of artists who helped usher in the neo-traditionalist movement of the mid-1980s. His first five albums all reached No. 1 and 16 of his singles topped the charts, including 'On the Other Hand,' 'Forever and Ever, Amen,' and the 2002 smash, 'Three Wooden Crosses,' which returned him to the top after eight years.

"It's amazing to me to be celebrating my 25th anniversary in the music business on this stage because of the way I grew up and what I grew up listening to," Randy said from the stage.

The tribute to the 52-year-old concluded with Randy performing 'Didn't We Shine,' joined by Connie Smith, Gene Watson and Joe Stampley. The 'Opry Live' premiere of the Randy Travis Anniversary Celebration will air on GAC, on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 9:00 P.M. (ET)

Other artists on the 'Anniversary Celebration' album include Brad Paisley, Jamey Johnson, Shelby Lynne, Alan Jackson, Kristin Chenoweth, Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, George Jones, Kris Kristofferson. Willie Nelson and Don Henley.

Carrie looked and sounded fantastic, as always.
Normally I would not find that dress flattering, but Carrie makes it work; she looks gorgeous. I just love how much her and Randy adore each other; she has gained some fabulous, classy artists as supporters/fans over the years, and Randy is at the top, IMO.
