If there’s one thing everyone can agree on, it’s that Mike Fisher is having a great year — on and off the ice.
The morning after potting a pair of goals — including the game winner — over the hated Maple Leafs, the Senators star made a surprise appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
And while he didn’t physically appear on the talk show, Fisher’s girlfriend, country music sensation Carrie Underwood, DeGeneres and more than a few of the ladies in the studio audience gushed over a picture of Fisher that flashed across the TV monitors.
“He’s good looking, isn’t he?” said DeGeneres of the rugged Peterborough native.
“Yes he is,” said Underwood, trying in vain to conceal an ear-to-ear grin.
Underwood and Fisher have both played coy about their relationship status, but yesterday, Underwood was an open book.
She revealed the couple have been dating for close to a year and that they were introduced by one of Underwood’s bandmates.
Fisher has previously said he first met Underwood when the American Idol star was in town in March 2008 for a performance at Scotiabank Place.
Underwood admitted yesterday she had a few reservations at first.
“That was actually one of the first things (I asked),” said Underwood, as DeGeneres cringed over hockey’s “violent” nature.
“Does he have his own teeth?” inquired Underwood. “‘No, but he has a good dentist,’ ” was the response.
When she found out Fisher made his home in Canada, Underwood gave our home and native land the big thumbs down, but quickly backtracked.
Nothing against Canada, said Underwood, “but that’s a long-distance relationship.”
DeGeneres probed further, asking about the couple’s rumoured plans to move in together, and putting Underwood on the spot by popping the big marriage question.
“Call me old-fashioned, but he’s there, I’m here. We’re doing our thing,” said Underwood. “The next guy I move in with will be my hubby. I’m not saying it’s going to be him.”
Fisher and Underwood are both devout Christians, and Fisher spent the past summer in impoverished El Salvador doing missionary work for World Vision. Special message
Underwood’s latest album, the chart-topping Play On, contains a special message in its liner notes for “#12.”
“You are the most amazing addition to my life!” Underwood writes. “You are such a wonderful person and have had such an amazing hand in the building of this album and in the growth of me as a person.
“I love you so much. You make my life better in every way! I thank God for you every day ... XOXO, Carrie.”
Fisher, who’s off to a great start with nine goals, was asked if being happy in his personal life, including his relationship with Underwood, had helped put him in a good frame of mind coming to the rink, and contributed to the good start.
“She takes credit for it,” he said with a laugh. “Every part of my life is good. I feel blessed and very fortunate.”
It's sure nice to see Carrie being credited instead of being blamed. Around here we're always saying Carrie makes us want to be a better person. I guess she makes Mike want to be a better hockey player. lol!

Interesting concept. I thought the difference in height between Mike and Carrie was more than that. Don't know if Robert knows any ladies that meet your height test.... wonder if this works better than computer dating?
