    Carrie A Broken Wing cover

I always knew about Carrie's recording of "A Broken Wing" by Martina McBride, but I never knew that there was a video too. Thought I'd share.

There are two other videos of her singing on that channel as well.

Love this - it shows a lot of how Carrie learnt her craft, and developed a spirit that's still very apparent to me in her music. I will always maintain that Carrie, as a singer so sensitive to the ethos of Country Music, didn't come from American Idol, but from the youth she spent performing, principally in the Tulsa - Fort Smith area.

(For anyone interested, Chad Little, who led that band, still lives in the Sallisaw area, and is a fashion designer and businessman, specializing in leather goods and custom guitar straps. In the recent past he has continued performing in Country and Christian music, but I'm not sure if he is still actively pursuing that.)

Ha funny how she said Martina was one of her "Idols" and giggled. Little did she know she would become Americas biggest Idol!!

I think this second video is interesting, because it shows Carrie handling a more tender song, showing the purity of emotion in her voice in the verse passages. It's with the same band, and around the same time, when Carrie was 15, but presumably on a different occasion, as she was wearing a different costume (as she is in all three of the videos they have posted.) The song was written by the late Tim Johnson, and had been a hit for Mindy McCreedy the previous year - but it peaked at number 18, which I think shows that Carrie was interested in learning and performing quite widely from the contemporary song repertoire, and not just the most famous ones.

^^^ Ahh yes, how I so remember that song..... Mindy had a great voice, I loved her Ten Thousand Angels CD and play it a lot.... That was one of my favorite songs on that CD.......

And even then Carrie had that power in her voice...... She was destined to be a star......
