I’m looking forward to what Carrie, Reba, and Dolly are going to do! I hope they perform together or do a giant group of the women of country music singing famous songs!

My concern was not at all what you mentioned. I am just very cynical of anything associated with awards coming from the CMA association. It's been fixed for years concerning Carrie and maybe decades before her. Just causes me to doubt all of it. I don't know ML or Carrie personally, therefore I Can't speak to their friendship. Whenever anything is made public concerning the CMA Awards I am Just distrustful. That shouldn't be too hard to understand.

It's not coming from the CMA though (unless you're thinking of board member Karen Fairchild's "like" - which I think would be rather a stretch). it's coming from an individual, who (in Alison Bonagura's words, "penned a 190 word essay"). There is, i suppose, some danger of that being seen as over the top - and there might be some resentment from other record groups and fan bases - but I think that is tempered by the fact that she separately made shorter nice references to the other nominees, and the fact that several other people expressed support for the main post. Why do it in public at all? Well, the point is that you have to get the attention of the voters, and combat the publicity blurbs they get from the groups backing other artists. There's little evidence that label handouts, containing mainly lists of "achievements", count for much with many voters. There's more evidence that some will vote in accordance with what they would like the genre to represent. Carrie can't do much in a post of her own to promote that aspect, if they can't already see it. But this post (which has been described as "heartfelt") does, in my view, touch on many of the aspects of Carrie's personal and public image which would be likely to strike a chord with many independent voters. Those are the ones that the music business organizations are likely to be least successful in reaching. This post, at least, might. It's been widely noticed and talked about - and I think we should be glad to have it circulating.

[edit - sorry, Madkatt - I hadn't seen your last post as I was typing that - please feel free to do as you see best]

Basically, they say give Carrie Entertainer, without saying her name.

I was doing some research and oh, my God.

The CMA basically crowns a woman EOTY only at the end of the decade.
The gap between women winning it is freaking TEN YEARS (average).

Excluding repeated wins and groups, here's how it's been so far:

    2009 - Taylor

    1999 - Shania

    1986 - Reba

    1980 - Barbara

    1978 - Dolly

    1972 - Loretta

    This is beyond absurd.

Weirdly, times were much better from the time Loretta won to Reba. 15 years, with 5 wins for women (Barbara won in both '80 and '81), 1/3. Then between '87-'00, 14 years, two wins (Shania-'99 and Dixie Chicks-'00), 1/7.

Crazy how it's gotten worse over time.

The slayage if she sing this at the CMA's and include M&T and Runaway June in background vocals, kind of what she did with Mama's Song at the CMA's in 2010.

I sooo agree.... she needs to perform a single like DA to showcase that (why she should win) EOTY award, not to mention a Grammy worthy vocal performance....

^ What does Eric have to do to prove he should be EOTY?
IMO Carrie's already proven she deserves the award. She doesn't need to keep proving it over and over.

Not saying that she has to prove anything but whatever Carrie does singing wise blows anyone out of the water... So why not make it a showcase performance on a night that most likely will be hers.......

I cant speak for Eric since I don't follow him.......

    https://www.pollstar.com/article/qs-with-carrie-underwood-the-cry-pretty-powerhouse-throws-down-on-women-country-entertainer-of-the-year-141318

Speaking of icebergs ... Entertainer of the Year. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want it or it’s an honor to be nominated. I’m competitive and committed to what we do. But you know that award is about so much more than me. It’s about my team, all the people who work so hard with me – from the label to the road people, the musicians, the songwriters, my management, even the fans because it’s their award, too. I see the fans coming to multiple shows, calling the radio stations, trying to find the music.

I could say, “I’m just doing this for the fans,” because there’s a lot of truth in that. And I’d rather be the person who doesn’t win, but should. But I look at the things that go into it: performances, album, tour, vocals, the songs. I want to be the person who truly excels at all those things.

Why is it so much harder for women to win Entertainer?
They always talk about ticket sales, and you’re certainly selling out Staples Center on a Thursday, Madison Square Garden on a Wednesday... Tough nights.
Well, I’m bad at campaigning. It feels icky to say, “Vote for ME!” I don’t like to do stuff like that. Other people might do it, and it feels right for them. I think this stuff has to work for who you are...
But it’s everything. I feel that when I see the difference between men and women, I realize it’s not just me. I look at Runaway June with “Buy My Own Drinks” going up the chart, and it should’ve gone faster and higher looking at what’s around it. It’s fresh, and it pops out. But they’re three girls.
