The ones (co-writes and cuts) that got away...

I'm not sure if this topic has its own dedicated thread, but I was reading through the Storyteller co-writes and cuts, thinking how I just wish Carrie would release some of them rather than have another 2.5/3 years between major releases.

I scoped out old pulse threads for old lists and found all these from Storyteller, BA, and PO. I assume CR has a list but the Pulse thread for that leads to an outdated version of the website.

I deleted any songs have have official releases. I know there are a handful here that have had leaked demos (Oklahoma Wind, Sugarush, Lord Help Me, etc.). I left those in the list.

Does anybody have a link to demos of any of these? (Carrie and/or co-writers). There's over 100 songs here. Between these and more from CR and others we don't know about aka another potential decade of music! There's a song called "Trainwreck" and I need to hear it before I die.

    From Storyteller:
Future Daughter - (Gorley, Kelly, Underwood)
Pawn Shop Diamond - (McEwan, Morris, Underwood)

Well David Hodges who cowrite Distant Lullaby for Narnia officially recorded it for his The December Sessions series. If you like the singer-songwriter style, you'll probably like a lot of songs across each volume (there are four now). I believe they're all songs he penned with/for other artists but weren't recorded.

I feel like we didn't get any demos from the Storyteller era (maybe there were just fewer sleuths this time?) but we did get to hear a lot, relatively, from Play On, like "Lie to Me Again," "Lord Help Me," "My Favorite Part," and "Sugar Rush." And "Nobody Knows" (co?)written by Lori McKenna isn't on your list but it's probably one of my favorite demos (along with Sugar Rush) we've heard. It's the type of intimate yet gritty and powerful relationship song I hope we hear more of on Carrie's next album. And there probably is a full studio version by Carrie tucked away since it apparently came close to making the cut for Blown Away).

Carrie's co-write "Lord Help Me" has probably been the one most recorded by other artists (from memory, I think three times). This is the most prominent version, by Welsh artist, Bonnie Tyler (who began in Country Music, gained world recognition in dramatic story-Rock, when she teamed up with Meat Loaf's producer, and cut a Country Rock album in 2013, containing this track.) Carrie's co-writers were Ashley Monroe and Katrina Elam.

Wow! It's been a long time since I've posted on here. I've been lurking, but haven't posted anything in years! But here are some co-writes that have been recorded by others, both are from the Play On era

Julianne Hough - I'll Be The DJ

Ashleigh Lisset - Kill the Headlights (i can't embed this one apparently)

I would actually like it if for her next album, she picked 2 songs from each songwriting era, and put them on it.

Million Dollar Bonfire and Pawn Shop Diamond..love those titles. To me they sound like cheating songs.

Like, if she was married to a rich man and he cheated on her she drove to the bank, took out all his money, and had a million dollar bonfire...

Or pawn shop diamond - wedding ring gets pawned off!

Here is a song Co Wrote by Carrie, Ne-Yo and Luke Laird. I think she wrote it for Play On cd and it didn't make the cut.

If anyone has any demos, do you mind sending them to me? I never heard some of the demos before, such as "Sugarrush" or "Lie to Me Again."

As for other Carrie co-writes, I can't remember the name, but I think Kristi Lee Cook recorded a Carrie co-write. And, of course, Lauren Alaina recorded Carrie's co-write "18 inches".

Edit: Sorry, I see that you said you deleted any songs that have had official releases, so that may include some that others have posted that were recorded by artists other than Carrie. I'm thankful for those posts, though, because I always forget which songs other artists have recorded that were co-written by her.

    There's 110 songs listed above.

I know Carrie 'moves on' after every era (save for 'See You Again' and 1 or 2 other songs leap frogging over the album they were originally written for), but come on!

You mean to tell me there aren't AT LEAST 13 diamonds in that stack to make an album out of?

I have Kristi Lee Cook's album with this Carrie co-write -- "Not Tonight." Love this song. Think her album would have been more successful if NT had been the first release.

I was just searching on BMG and ASCAP and I found a song on BMG called "Imaginary Friend" that lists Carrie, Ashley Monroe and Brett James as the writers. It even has a clip to listen to it. Had we heard of this one before? It's not Carrie singing in the clip, but I don't know who it is.

There are also a couple called "Faith Hope Love" and "He Rides Away" that have clips as well that were Carrie co-writes. There may be more as well, I just haven't gotten that far.

I'm thinking these clips must be sung by a demo singer.

Ok, I see most of these titles are in the original post, but I thought it was cool that BMG has clips of the demo singer doing them.

I can't vouch for this - but I heard that Carrie discarded a whole block of songs in that period, connected with Reynsongs Publishing (sometimes written as Wrensongs) over concerns connected with the possibility of premature release of material. If true, this would include the songs co-written with Ashley Monroe or Jon Randall, who publish through that company. I don't know if, or when, her policy on that might have changed - but the loss of writers of that calibre is, in my view, very regrettable.

There were several with short clips, although I can't recall at this moment if they were all Ashley co-writes. Since Carrie is with BMG for her music rights/publishing/registry, I'm assuming they have permission to post the demo clips. Perhaps the songs with demo clips are songs that Carrie has agreed to let other artists use?
