Carrie singing "Broken Wing" LIVE and effortlessly at age 14-15

Blows the studio recording that she did hundreds of THOUSANDS of miles away. That last note ...

That was perfection. The guy was blown away at the end. I have seen it already. Thanks for posting anyway. It's such great cover. What a singer.

LMAO @ her jetting off of that stage as fast as humanly possible and then barely coming back for a second when he called her back. She used to be so shy and awkward lol. Like, "I'm only here to sing, people .. you should just be grateful that I'm here even sharing my otherworldly vocal abilities with you … you don't get to ask for anything else. You expect me to TALK to you, too? Don't push your luck too far there, buddy." LMAO. XD

That is one of the things I admire her about forcing herself to do things that she could have easily let limit her life experiences. I think she stills fight her shyness.

It's crazy to see her here and see her now.

She OWNS whatever stage she's on these days and embarrasses anyone that dares to come before or after her performance.

That footage (from seventeen years ago) was released by the University of Arkansas. They were involved because the pageant that is part of those events provides scholarships for young women.

Probably, most people will particularly notice the power vocals, but what I also find impressive is Carrie's measured phrasing, deeper intonation, and traditional Blues influence that she incorporates, particularly in the introductory part of the song. I think it shows that she really understood where the song is coming from.

James House is not only a vocalist who can outshine many of the contemporary chart singers, I also think, as a songwriter, he could suit Carrie's gifts pretty well - his songs often include power vocal passages, the opportunity to show empahy with emotional moods, and strong lyrics. "A Broken Wing" is particularly well known, but here's another example. It's a male song, but I believe the general song type and the feel of the music could also suit Carrie.

I'm surprised that Carrie hasn't sang a duet with Martina. I remember her nailing Independence Day on American Idol. And Carrie calls Martina an influence.
