I admire "Keep Us Safe" most as an example of songwriting, and I think it's another step upwards in Carrie's inspiration and lyrical feel. I admire her greatly for the commitment, emotion, quality and grace that she puts into the performance. But, at the same time, I have to admit, it's not a performance style that I could really say I fully appreciate. I think the stagy, "big event" presentation, the heavy make up, the use of a chamber orchestra, the overwhelmingly "General Music" feel of much of the vocal are rather easier to appreciate for fans who like and relate to a particular style of performance. Don't misunderstand - I'm not criticizing Carrie - I admire her for putting her heart and soul into this performance. I'm just explaining that I personally don't relate strongly to that style. It's a part of Carrie's spectrum - but not one I find particularly to my musical taste. I actually prefer both "Praying For Time" and "Oh Love". I admire Carrie's commitment and sense of the occasion - but "Keep Us Safe" is not one I'd frequently watch.
I totally respect what you are saying. And yo are so right.
There are many fans of Carrie who see her as that fiesty woman belting out the medley from BA at that awards show. Or see her singing Paradise City at some Outdoor Festival.
I see those parts of her and I know she loves to do that.
But yes, for me, I see that part of her that can just stand there and sing something that causes an entire 10.000 seat theatre to sit motionless for every note she sings to them.
That for me is such a big part of Carries artistry. And yes, I admit, I get a bit self-concious when she is presented (by her own choosing) as this prestine goddess atop a pedastal bathed in light to be adored and appreciated for her looks as well as her singing. And then you add an inpirational song that might make many a cynic gag, ha ha ha ha..... And you end up with an image that alot of people are not going to relate to.

But I do think it is a concious choice of hers to create those moments and to embed that image into our minds.
So I do just buy right into it hook line and sinker.
Cause I do think she is still trying to send a messege. And usually that messege is much closer to her heart than a message like TBC or BHC.

So when Carrie is willing to just stand there and sing, I am so willing to listen to what she has to say......

BTW, I love love "Yo're Lookin' at Country" so much. Just another part of this woman that feels so genuine and authentic.
She is nothing if not very diverse..........

And now you understand why she gets offers like the SOML, Almay Rep, Hall of Fame, salute the troops, etc. She's all that.

Kymberlee, you should not post videos in this thread because it takes me time to load. You should do as carriesfan123 does.

Thanks God for Hometowns is at #66. Poor this song. I remember that I rated it very high

But I like posting the videos. How long does it take the page to load just wondering cause for me the page is fully loaded in less than a minute. If it takes longer than X minutes than I'll do it like Carriefan123 does.

Thanks for posting videos. She has such heavenly diverse vocals. I've never heard Oh Love.

Just a reminder that the Loretta Lynn song was the result of a hand-written note sent to Carrie by Loretta. Those tribute songs were not the result of some label marketing decision. Loretta was making an effort to unify different wings of Country Music (Mainstream/Alternative format base, Rock/Traditional influence, political, and generational) Carrie was there because Loretta wanted her there. Carrie's generation was represented by herself, Miranda Lambert and Hayley Williams - but of these, only Carrie was asked to sing solo. The actual songs were again chosen for them by Loretta, and she gave Carrie a particularly iconic title, in the sense of seeking a continuing legacy. It's both one of her personal songs, and also a song that can be interpreted as personifying the genre.

This remains, incidentally, one of Carrie's most played songs on the BBC national and local stations' specialist shows (but that is also a side effect of the rather disappointingly low level of promotion by the record label of Carrie's own album work so far - despite good press coverage, and her headline appearence on Country to Country, we're still waiting for any real sign of a push to get her albums known).
Thanks so much for this information. I'm not surprised.

Working with Jack White turned out to be a success. Are there any other young artists you admire creatively?

    A. Carrie Underwood. I think she is one of the best girl singers today. She can sing anything.
